What "man jobs" have you done today?

I can't recall who said earlier that a member had a nice moss but the front lawn has now declined to something worthy of that moniker. From now on `er indoors will be summoned to "scalp the moss".

I am liking it more and more, it even ticks all the Green Warrior credentials. "How often do you cut the lawn and what do you do with the clippings?"

"Oh, deary me, we don't have a lawn, we have a moss!"

Even better than having one of those abortions of a car driven off batteries that they insist will save the planet ;)

Tried to remove as much as I can from the old broken concrete hearth, ready for over boarding with ply. Do you think I will get away with just dumping fresh concrete in, and levelling with a wooden baton? The plan is to put LVT down on top of the ply.

Levelling compound might be a better option than concrete? You could also skip the ply then and just level it with the floor level.

I thought same, but as that is more liquid than cement, it has a greater chance to run off from what I can see and there's no way to tell from that photo, if the floor is level to start with.

Progress today after yesterday's car crash of an achievement (like 1 hour to scrape 2m2 of wallpaper lol).

The socket chaser tool kit is LEGENDARY.

I've bought some air brick extenders so that they finish below skirting level but annoying AF it looks like my floating floor is below DPC level by a fraction.... Unsure how to tackle that. I bought some expanding foam to insulate the gap but maybe it's worth leaving a cold spot so I don't bridge the DPC....rip...

Nice work! Pretty decent for a day solo.

My progress has not been as good... Had 9 pulls of cable in top floor lighting circuit, including the feed from ground floor. I managed to finish 5 of them, but two are stuck hard. Either I don't have the grunt, or I really need a second person pushing the cable too.

The main feed from ground floor I have done half of, but the vertical half is definitely a 2 person job unless I want to rip the wall open.

Tired and a bit defeated but I've felt defeated and come back swinging 3 times today... More tomorrow.

Last man job was going to Morrisons before closing for tomorrow's dinner and a few beers!

Chasing in backboxes, the most mind numbing job, stitched drilled mine and felt like moving after. I thought the box sinker was a fad and not necessary :p oh well you live and learn.
At my brother in law's house where we planned to move, I have two back boxes I stitch drilled and have banged one out and the other isn't finished. This before I heard of the SDS gadget and bought for my own place. True story :D

I started today not intending to be productive at all. Failed slightly :p

Gave the lawns their first cut of the year.

Then I thought having neglected my motorbike for the last 7 months or so, I should probably pay her some attention. Firstly, she was uncovered in the garage, covered in sawdust from all my wood chopping antics, so I wheeled her out and gave her a quick jet wash. I then tried to start her, no joy, battery dead. Really dead. Starting fine via jump leads, but she would cut out once I disconnected the jump leads. Connected the battery to the optimate, which I should've done 7 months ago, and the charger began a de-sulphate cycle. Leaving her on charge overnight, however, I'm resigned to the fact that the battery is goosed and it'll be £70 for a new one.

Then I got the rest of the garage in some semblance of order. It was a dumping ground designed to test agility. Now, everything has its place, is neatly stored and I can walk from the garage door to the back wall, unimpeded, for the first time in nearly a year! One trip to the tip with the car loaded for another trip tomorrow.

Now chilling with a well-deserved beer. Caught the sun today too, so am a bit tired, will head to bed shortly I think.

Also, am I okay just leaving all my cables floating on the slab underfloor? Really CBA to nail them my hands are busted
Sensible me says you're probably better off having the cable secured underneath the joists to minimise the chances of rodent squatters munching on them.

Silly me says what are you thinking man? You wouldn't leave the cabling like that in your PC tower? Would you? :D

FFS.... :(. Yes you are right.

Did you get some plastic conduit tube for the vertical chases? Will make it easier to pull cables next time you/someone rewires. Same logic may apply to under the floor, I'd do whatever makes the next job easier.
I did grab a bit but it isn't quite right for the gap the wall chaser has made. I'm a way off doing the plaster work anyway! I did try and buy more earlier but forgot the word 'conduit' lol.

With the help of a generous neighbour we managed to get the playhouse in the garden built into a state that the kids can use it. Few more bits here and there to do, but finally it’ll be of some use!

Also grilled for the first time this year so had to sort the BBQ out.

Yeah I'm finding 20mm is a tight fit in the punch outs. Just one of the joys of this process!

I'm about to do some filling before bed to see how I get along with it. Only done a bit of rendering before.
