What "man jobs" have you done today?

It looks a fraction ropey but it's flat as a pancake now. I had to give it a quick float as there was a drain gap leaking out some of the screed. I'm over the moon it was a natural dip and I didn't have to screed the whole area tho. I have a clear run to complete the utility and WC. That means I can finalise skirting and kickpanels in the kitchen and refit the door frame mouldings. Woop. Unfortunately it's sunny today so I must go to the zoo first...

@dlockers Mrs Sk8 would kill me if I had more than one room on the go at once
Yeah I am on thin ice, hence the zoo trip this morning. I was just as cross at how connected every job was. It's why I have had to go in an odd order (doing kitchen before floor etc lol). Glad I did it though, the house is 20x more comfortable w.r.t heat retention.

Just managed to put a 6 hour post-zoo shift in, so I'm now right at the end of the utility room. I wanted to do the washer home but realistically I was beat. Tomorrow I'll finish and start throwing down skirting, I think............

Bathroom extractor fan's on the blink, takes around a minute to start, makes a grating noise when it eventually does but runs perfectly when it's up to speed, so scoping out what's involved to replace it.

Looks like it's an old school Vent-Axia that's hidden within the ducting. It's currently installed right above the vent in the bathroom and is almost right against the eaves in the loft so minimal space to work with. Not entirely sure how a modern inline fan from Vent-Axia or Manrose is going to fit.

Could easily screw a board to the joists to give it a platform to sit on but it would be right over the vent so no room for the ducting. Replacing it with an axial fan seems logical but the extraction rates are really poor and my bathroom is mould central in the winter.

The plan today was to replace 1 rotten piece of wood on the awning above our front door. However 3 pieces were rotten and the main horizontal span at the front had about 15mm of rot into the upper side, where the rotten pieces sat.

So I hacked out the rotten wood with a home made chisel (sharpened screwdriver), then glued and clamped a piece of batten in there.

When it's dry I'll need to sand it level with the rest of the good wood and can then replace the other 3 rotten pieces with new wood, which I've already cut to size using the old pieces as templates.

Because I prioritised lining center up with the French doors, I'm slightly off centre on the rear door. However I am center with the throne so this will be forever my answer to how I cast off the herringbone :D

Need to find a man to sort this now...

Oh and I raised the height of the cupboard and whacked in a shelf + door bar...

One day I shall hang doors, finish the picture rail, lay the trim around the edges of the floor, etc etc.

Might start the bathroom instead :D

Borrowed a friend and made NINE trips back and forth to self storage (thankfully about 2.5 minutes drive around the corner). 9 car loads, 19 trolleys in total. The garage and storage unit before/near the start:

Trolley loads 11 and 12:

The garage at the end - anything left is either going into the house, to the dump, or being given away this week.

The storage unit at the end.

Even have some floorspace I can throw a few extra items in!

This week I'm hoping the builders can start digging foundations for the brick wall to convert the garage and porch. Just in time to keep the winter cold out!

I need a drink and a hot bath. Going to be sore at work tomorrow.

Can you prioritise spelling next time
Hey now, in all fairness the things at the end of my hands are barely functional. I also took quite a chunk out of one with the hammer. I asked my 3y/o to grab the hammer for me later on in the day and she came back saying "try not to hit your finger this time OK?" with this patronising stare down

How many hours have you put into your house? Are you doing a lot of the work for the first time/a new experience?
