What "man jobs" have you done today?

Cut the bamboo back in the week, and dug it out today. Wife, child, and dog all just stood there helping.

Hopefully I got all the roots out or whatever they're called.

As a man you need plenty of supervision:)

So....started early, and sanded all the joint and tape down. It's about 98% with some obvious sketchy bits where there is the compound joint in the ceiling but it'll do me. My main aim was to make it functionally better rather than Instagram perfect - so it's been rewired, insulated against the cold walls, cat6 etc...

Two coats on the ceiling - trade diamond mat is legendary stuff. One coat on the walls so far as I am chancing a few slightly iffy backings (old paint that withstood 60grit but once wet may flake....). I'll give it till midweek then give it a final coat.

I need to have a think about the top cupboard doors, maybe just some fresh hinges and a paint. The wardrobe door I've been told will be a curtain, so I'll try and box out the pipework at some point...

Not bad given it was this (during the heating replacement about 18months ago) :

Edit: I also finished the soffits and fascias on the summer house so I'm ready to glue the rubber now. And mowed the lawn.

Can you please take some time off you're making me tired just looking at your pictures:)

Hi all, not worth its own thread but I'm replacing my ensuite bathroom soon (it doesn't look like its been touched since the 70s); does anyone know please what this white vertical pipe is called / is for?

I'm assuming it's some kind of air admittance pipe, but didn't know they ever did them exposed like this? Thanks.

It's an overflow isn't it? Old toilets used to have a separate pipe for overflow. Newer ones just overflow into the bowl.

Could be for the toilet overflow or an old waste pipe.
Even now you're faster than me

As above.
If the pipe exits the outside wall, just double check nothing else connects to it and remove + block up.
If it exits into a waste pipe/stink pipe, just cap it off at the waste pipe.

Managed to borrow dad's petrol brush-cutter & mower, then roped the brother-in-law for a day of graft (well paid, of course).

I'm not fussed that the lawn is in shocking condition - so long as the Fluffy-Nutter can do her business without getting lost and the kids can kick a ball, I'm happy.

Plans are to remove the concrete monstrosity dissecting the garden, build a 3m deep patio level with the back door (swapping the PVC window panel out for french doors), then create a ramp down the brick wall side of the garden to a paved area by the back gate.

I'll build a "Catio" enclosure off the left hand GF window (my study/den) so the moggies have a safe & secure outdoor area.

The garden's too small to do much else with - I'll put planters/vertical garden boxes along the brick walls (bricklayer nephew will replace the remaining fence with walls to match) for greenery, but ease of maintenance and usable space is the priority.
