What "man jobs" have you done today?

Swore a bit when I discovered the source of water ingress in the garage, having moved about 2 months ago and what with the recent heavy rain.

Initially I thought rising damp but found there to be puddles of standing water, far too much for damp, given no wet patches on the roof lining or joists. Looked to be running down the wall inside.

So despite the state of this externally I might (short term) be lucky in that this is a gutter issue given the 'snake' laid in currently. Strangely the gutter sits directly on the top course of bricks, as opposed to being mounted on the side.

Off to find some bricks and a mortar rake.

Managed to dig out all the rotten timber on Youtube Wally's build and finish the feather edge at the back.
8m x 2.5m of shuttering ply, batons and finished with 23cm Feather edge.

All rot removed from the front and side and building raised 5cm on the end and temp supports added.

Next job is to run all cable and change strip lights to something less workshop and then line the whole thing out with
8x4 board.

I think it is fair to say that you have found your problem.

Finally made a start on finishing off the utility. It was 90% first fixed it just needed the skirting fitting and some polyfil. Also removed the gross WC door as I bought a matching 1930s about a year ago lol. Filled and routed new hinges ready to offer it up tomorrow if I get lucky!

No he was one of these builders that didn't have a clue and even after watching Youtube or asking on forums, still was clueless, but still continued.

There's plenty of them around.
Unfortunately not everyone can translate what they watch and see into a good finished product. No matter how much they try, they will always cut corners thinking people wont see it……

Had my Covid & Flu jabs yesterday, so I woke up feeling like I've been hit by a train. Very tempted to crawl back into bed after the school run, but decided to soldier on and do some maintenance on mine & the kids' PCs.

Swapped rigs with my son in the summer (his air cooled 7800XT system with my fully water cooled 3080Ti setup), as the heat coming from his room was unbearable.
My rig runs a lot more efficiently, cooler and quieter, so it made sense to officially hand it over, since he uses it full time.

Swapped the storage drives over and had a fiddle with Windows account names, then cleared the dust and cat hair out of our Lancool filters and my 10 year old's Fractal Pop.

Did some network bits (Port Forwarding for Sunshine/Moonlight), swapped the old 5 port switch for a new 8 port, so out bedroom TV has a wired connection and then had a play with Moonlight streaming from the PC and the PS5's Remote Play feature.

Bit of teething trouble, but eventually got everything running smoothly, so now I can play PS5 or anything installed on my PC from either the Lounge or Bedroom TVs (both TCL 845K), at 4K, 120hz, or on my Android tablet (Doogee T30 Pro) at 1440p, 120hz.

Have tested a few different controllers:
PS5 Dual Sense
Xbox Elite 2
GameSir Nova/Nova Lite (perfect for Switch)
EasySMX X10 (The firm favourite)

The Elite needs repairing/replacing, which will have to be a later project.

TL:DR, I spent all day doing "bugger all", according to the Wife

I recently had a promotion from basic DIY Dad (I put up some shelves) to what I consider to be a full-on Rambo Dad of the DIY world - I fixed the bog.

It was leaking into the bowl from the cistern for about a week, and taking the 'just ignore it and hope it magically stops all on its own' approach didn't seem to be working. Cue several YouTube videos of guys staring into their toilets with rubber gloves on and it was identified that a seal had perished. I bought a new seal and managed to dismantle the flush mechanism to fit it (with some but less than usual swearing) and I'm happy to confirm it's no longer leaking .

And the best bit? The shop I bought the seal from was actually called Fix The Bog.

You mean this isn't how you do a real world new GFI/RCD test when you are renovating a house?

"Send in the sticky toddler!" :P

I would at least get the 4 year old some arc flash workwear and ensure they were up to date with 18th Edition :D

Next week the 4 year old will be installing 4 phase into the shed.

Got to play with my new circular saw today making a shed base. I also used one of them US triangle squares to run the saw along and its a game changer. They're so much better for construction work than our delicate sliding mitre squares.
