What "man jobs" have you done today?

Just put a bum lifter on wall by the bog.
My knees are refusing to lift my weight now and need some help.
No sooner was it on wife found something to put on it - Still it only get's used once a day hopefully.
This used to be an hours job - 2.5hrs due to checking 10 time then a few more just to check again. Numerous trips to garage because i forgot something.
It also matches well with the existing towel rails.

Stripped the aircon unit in the living room down. Gave it a really thorough clean, washed he fan and all the plastics. Vacuumed out all the coils and filters. Smells lovely now. Got the bedroom unit and outdoor unit to sort next, but the living room one was getting a buildup of mould so had to be done.

Id wondering why theres mould in your living room…..

Took delivery of 11 sheets of chipboard and handballed them into the garage. Managed to cut and fit two of them but ran out of time and energy. I'll have to try and get a couple of sheets down each evening this week - got friends visiting next weekend and I need to pile all the **** in the spare room back to the garage!

To be fair I was pretty suss of this frog tape - it has been poorly stored since new. Luckily I have about 50ml of touch up green.

Still need to route in the door catch fitting but I'll do that once the door is painted.
I recommend tesa sensitive tape over frog tape for this application.

Had the green paint been on for a while? I think it says it needs to be on for a number of weeks(!) to stop this peeling.

Will give it a go for next time. If it had worked it would have been a mega time saver - I normally just give up and try and cut in manually.

Green had been on for over a year - and it was mist coated, and it wasn't fresh plaster either.

I need to fit something similar in the bath, can you answer some question pls.

1. What kind of tiles are they, porcelain or ceramic?

2. What drill bit did you use?

3. What fixings did you use, wall-plug or something else?

Thanks.

I need to do a bit of bathroom sealent work

What is reccomended ? is some average stuff like Unibond silicone sealant ok, or is the premium stuff £9.99 stuff like dow cornering - mould resisant sealant worth going for? some of the £5 unibond ones state mould risistant, but a lot of people saying that dow cornering silicone stuff is worth paying an extra fiver for , for a 310ml cartridge?

is this all a marketing ploy ?

I was directed to DOW 785+ BACTERIA-RESISTANT SANITARY SILICONE once before, and it seems very good.

Lots of the older stuff is a bit dirty, but the newer is still looking fresh.

One day I will get round to taking off all the old and doing it with the 785+.

I cannot remember what the tiles were as it was 14 yrs ago - Guess at ceramic.

I bought a tile drill kit when I was doing the tiling and they are similar to these but with a few more blades.

They still do a very good job and the hole was flawless - One thing you must do is put masking tape over where you are fitting it. This allowes you to mark everything up exactly.

The fittings are ordinary screws about 60mm long and ordinary wall plug -grey with two wings on the side but they came in the box. Instructions also said put blob of mastic in hole.

With these bits you can put one on your mark and give it a small tap with a hammer -it indents your mark -Then I used a 5mm to drill through tile then went through again with the 6mm.(reccomended) The 6 mm also allowed me to put a ordinary 6mm masonary bit in and drill the wall behind. I used a masonary drill because half of one of those tile bits is still in a wall at our last house.

The one I have comes with two round plates which you screw to wall then slide the fitting over it - There is virtually no room for error but you can move the fitting a fracion if you are slightly out.

Good luck.

Ps I think I bought tile only drill bits not multipurpose
:)

The average stuff will be fine.

I don't know what they put in the mould resistant stuff to make it mould resistant, but they are largely the same products, i.e. silicone. If you don't want any mould appearing then control moisture in your bathroom, and squeegee off any standing water from the tiles and bath after use. If you get any mould on the silicone, it's easy to remove and replace.
