What RAM are you getting/bought for Ryzen

For those who doesn't like RGB nor the look of the Flare-X, the Corsair LPX 3600C18 (& maybe 3466c16) available in the rainforest are v4.31 and are using Samsung B-die.

Running them in 2*8 at 3466c16 and 4*8 at 3200c16 in C6H 9455 currently :)

That'll explain why the 3466MHz kit I have was so blooming good. :D That is Ver 4.31 (4x8GB), sadly it's up for sale in the MM as I had to get 32GB in two slots for the two builds, rather than use four modules. :(

There's also non-RGB Trident Z :p

I have come to the conclusion (based on experience with the ASUS CH6) the sweet spot for Ryzen currently is 3200-3466 with decent timings.
I've spent a lot of time on 3200-3600 and 3200 & 3333 is a breeze to tune in timings stable. 3466 gives a little bit of a challenge and 3600 seems to fall back.
To get 3600 stable, for me on 2 systems anyway, the timings are too slack and/or voltages are too high which makes it not really worth it over 3466.
Some have had some great experience with 3600 but I feel it's partly luck of decent RAM and maybe lack of stress test to show stability.

Latency is high still (20ns slower than say a 6700K Z170 setup) and it's easier in most cases to concentrate on tuning down the ram at lower frequencies to help this.

Obviously there's the ref/base clock way to overclock and get some good results but for me at least, I have a soundcard and m2 SSD that I don't want troubles with.

Hopefully the IMC firmware will improve again in a couple of months to allow other ICs a better chance and stabilise higher clocks. I hope at least, but I'm doubtful.

Has anyone bought Corsair LPX 3200MHZ 2x16GB (CMK32GX4M2B3200C16), are they using Samsung B-dies? I'd like 32GB RAM for running VMs, still have reasonable frequency for the performance and not pay obscene prices.

Also any recommendations on Motherboard pairings, I'm leaning toward a Taichi, but honestly I have no plans to run SLI and am not likely to spend a lot of time tweaking so am I just as well going for a B350? The connectivity and overclocking performance of all mobos seems fairly similar so my main concern is getting RAM running at 3200 stable (and r7 1700 @ 3.8-3.9).

Most likely no.

Most of the 3200c16 in the market are v5.39 and are Hynix.

I replaced 4x 8GB Corsair 3466MHz LPX, which turns our to be Samsung B-die, with the 2x 16GB and it is Hynix, as per above. It doesn't clock nearly as well, and I couldn't get the timings as tight. Will be visiting the systems again once the AGESA 1.0.0.6 BIOSes are public release, not Beta so will see how they go then.

Yeah I think I will wait to see how the new AGESA changes things before I make any decisions. Is there any disadvantage to running 4 DIMMs vs 2, other than the ability to upgrade to 64gb in the future?

Thanks.

Spent hours pondering memory for my Gaming 5/1600 build and was settling on 3200 as price/perf goes but it does look like all the 3200 out there seems to be Hynix. Even those are around £135 so dont really want to spend any more. Memory isnt cheap these days is it!

I know Samsung B-die RAM is to one to aim for but is support for the Hynix stuff still that bad after the recent updates, is 3200MHz likely on the Gaming 5 paired with a 1600 (I'm currently looking at the Corsair LPX 2x8GB at that price)?

Was in the same boat myself, just ended up getting the same ram. Didn't fancy spending more on ram than I had on the motherboard or cpu. I'm quietly confident it'll get to 3200 in a bios revision or 2.

I've built 3 systems using the Gigabyte B350 Gaming 3 combined with the Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 and 2 of the systems are stable at 2933MHz using the XMP and reducing the multiplier. The other is stable at 3200MHz with the XMP - all using the F6 BIOS.

Obviously, it's no guarantee you'll get the same results but hopefully it's reassured you a bit. And as you say, with new releases you should eventually hit the magic number. Especially when they increase the dividers.
