What Restaurant did you eat at last night?

Just a polite point to note QuickLink - I find your reviews very difficult to read due to the coloured backdrop of your site. Also your photos are not residing in the spaces but overlapping the passages of text (on my screen anyway!)

Going to Oloroso in Edinburgh tonight, they say they have Scotland's finest steaks.

I would love to actually get a steak that doesn't have the texture of tyre rubber and taste like sea water in a restaurant. On the other hand, I might try something a little less risque; will write more once I get back xD

How did you find Oloroso? I've been a few times and the food's usually pretty good, but for the price I think there are better places to treat yourself in Edinburgh.

Wedgwoods on the Cannongate seems to be making a name for itself. Went a few months back and really, really enjoyed it. Heading back there soon for my gf's birthday. Booking 4 weeks in advance, I still couldn't get the time I wanted, even on a Thursday night.

On Friday I had dinner a Roast in Borough Market.

Got to say that it was excellent. Very busy so was only able to get a 6.30 booking (had to move it twice) and were told they would need the table back by 8.30; fair enough.

Wine was a 2010 Sancerre, can't remember the details. One of the girls said she wanted something dry that would cut though the food so that was a fairly straight forward choice and I'd already decided I was having fish.

Starter was griddled scallops with gooseberries and an elderflower sauce. I wnet of scallops for a long time after having some hockey pucks served to me in Cumbria, but it's dishes like this that make me glad I came back. Scallops were excellent and the gooseberries were sweet but not tart.

Main was dorset founder with baby leeks and minted new potatoes. I've got to say that it's worth going to Roast just for the potatoes. I could eat their new potatoes till I burst; small, firm, salty and just the right amount of mint. Their roast spuds in dripping are excellent too. The fist was excellent and just fell off the bone.

For pud I had baked custard with eton mess and honeycomb with a 10yo tawny port. Unfortunately this was a bit of a let down after the rest of the meal. The mess was more show than tell, the honey comb wasn't particularly sweet and the backed custard a bit bland. The port was also a bit disappointing. Perhaps would have been better with a cheese course.

£260 for three of us including champagne cocktails (for the ladies) and a good couple of ours with some great food. I had a better time than I have at some M*ed establishments and I think I'll be going back again.

Zorna's Spices in Purley, CR8. Indian cuisine. Very nice meal. Was a tad drunk so can't actually remember what we ordered but it was a lamb dish and a chicken dish. Kingfisher on tap was very fresh tasting. Good service from the staff.

edit: Found their online menu and I had:

Lamb Jalali (Medium Hot)
Spectacular tender pieces of lamb cooked on exotic spices and fresh herbs

Chicken Shorisha
Mustard seeds, shallot, nutmeg, crushed aromatic spices and citrus fruit in a medium sauce

I now remember munching in to a lump of food and soon realised it was half a lemon - sharpppppppppp

Quite simply the best food I've ever had in London. Simon Rogan has to be one of the top chefs in the UK at the moment, and he's pulled off something really special here.

Forget formality, fancy tablecloths, thick carpets and so on. It's a simple enough place - certainly more like St. John than Le Gavroche. The food is very now, it's not quite at Noma levels but not far off. Ingredients that you've never heard of that are probably growing in your back garden that have been thrown together to produce amazing flavours.

Quite simply, you'll struggle to get a better meal anywhere at the moment - with the possible exception of the Fat Duck, Sat Bains or even L'Enclume itself.

*I was feeling the effects of the wine at lunchtime by this point and focusing was a bit of a struggle, hence lack of sharpness..

Went to the Charlotte St Hotel last night for cocktails, a nice meal and then shuffled downstairs to watch Attack the Block at their very nice in house Cinema. It was £35 per head for a 3 course meal (excellent, I had swordfish and it was melting soft) and the movie (also excellent).

Spotted Sarah Jessica Parker and Karen Gillan.

That looks very interesting, I might try to get there at some point soon.

Last Saturday I ate at The Waterside Inn in Bray, my first visit to a 3 Michelin star restaurant. Beautiful location and a wonderful meal. We had Le Menu Exceptionnel, the taster menu which consisted of:

Flaked Devon crab with melon and fresh almonds, served with a marinated prawn

Terrine of foie gras with lightly peppered rabbit fillets and glazed with a Sauternes wine jelly, salad of Chinese cabbage leaves and a violet mustard flavoured brioche toast

Pan fried scallop and octopus slices with coriander, served on a bed of celery puree, coconut emulsion and tamarind sauce

Roasted loin of lamb stuffed with aubergine confit and grilled pine kernels, "gâteau" of moussaka and a light saffron flavoured jus
(which I had)
or
Roasted Challandais duck with a lemon and thyme jus, potato and garlic mousseline

Shortbread biscuit with an apricot mousse and redcurrants, rosemary scented apricot sorbet

Warm raspberry soufflé

Classic French cuisine which was fantastic coupled with superb service. In my opinion, worth the 3 stars and the price tag :).

Blackhouse Grill in Chester last night

Had Goats Cheese and Beetroot tart, followed by medium rare sirloin. Steak was nice enough, if a little over cooked. Service was great, but the place was quite loud!

Ramore Wine Bar in Portrush.

Awesome food (had rib-eye steak medium, pepper sauce, tobacco onions, champ) great atmosphere and fantastic value for money!

Cosmo - Bristol.

All you can eat.

Food was great, atmosphere was really good too. Food was fresh and constantly replenished. Even the food trays were replaced often making sure the food in the tray was turned over and in fresh equipment all the time.

£12 per person, I ate like a king!

So I went to dinner by Heston last week and I came away slightly confused/disappointed by it.

On the face of it, it does exactly what it says on the tin, a 3 course meal, so no fancy 9 course tasting menus etc here. The concept being recipes from through the ages of british cuisine updated for the 21st century.

Everything was very well executed, but none of it really took my breath away. The bread was pretty average, a sour dough that was a bit tough. My starter (Flesh and Rice - risotto like dish with saffron) was beautifully balanced and a real depth of flavour but was let down by not quite being hot enough or a slight delay in bringing it to the table, i'm guessing just because the place is so busy even this many months after opening! But slightly disappointing given the price point.

My main was a beautifully cooked pork chop, tender and juicy without a hint of being dry like so many pork chops you've had over the years. However, I found the mains didn't quite fit with the concept. The menu is all about dishes from the ages and yet all the mains require you to order side dishes (from a limited selection!), when you would expect there to be contemporary accompaniments. This did however gives them an opportunity to offer you the triple cooked chips he's so famous for, which were great but didn't come with a condiment and so where a touch dry in my book. It just felt that they bowed to the pressure to have triple cooked chips on the menu as opposed to choosing sides that match the main part of each main course dish. Its where the concept didn't quite work for me.

Desserts were really good. The tipsy cake was as good as the reviews say and was fascinating to see the pineapples roasting in the kitchen. My lemon suet pudding was beautifully balanced with a lovely lemon flavour that wasn't too sharp or sweet.

The earl grey post dessert dish was overly sweet for my palette but certainly did taste of earl grey tea.

Overall, it didn't quite hit the heights i'd been expecting though maybe my expectations were too high given the universal acclaim so far. for information - £140 a head (the wine list is pricey by london standards)

Last night I ate dinner with friends at Tony Romas at Xscape in Braehead. Was my first time eating in that resteraunt. I enjoyed it very much!

Starter for me was Kickin Shrimp. The shrimp was done in a spicy sauce that wasnt overpowering with some fresh salad. Very tasty!

Main course was a half rack of St Louis ribs with blue ridge smokies sauce with chicken tenders. That also came with a choice of 2 side dishes. I went for a side ceaser salad and corn on the cob. I can see why their famous for their ribs. They were fantastic!

There were 8 of us and the bill came to around £130 all together. Most ordered off the two course special menu for £9.95, my own meal came to just shy of £30, drink included. All in all it was an excellent meal and I would definetely go there again.

Went there on the weekend, very nice. Only been to one all you can eat before and that was awful so I wasn't sure what to expect. Overall a good experience.
If you want a really fantastic Chinese meal though I can throughly recommend Junior Poon in Clevedon. I might be a little biased as it's local but I've yet to have better.

Is it childish that I sniggered at the name "Junior Poon"?
