Having eaten at Fera (when Simon Rogan was running it), Roagan and Co, and L'Enclume, we were looking forward to our visit to Roganic on Friday evening. However, it was a disappointing experience overall. An 11 course taster with the first 4 courses being snacks which were fantastic, full of beautiful strong flavours. The following 7 courses were a little dull by comparison and whilst the sauces were lovely, there was a distinct lack of flavour and seasoning with the actual meat and veg components of the dish. The only exceptions were the celeriac dish, and the Tunworth cheese ice cream course which was fantastic. The final course of rhubarb, earl grey ice cream and buttermilk custard just didn't work very well. The pieces of cherry cake which we got to take home were superb, better than half of the meal.

Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
Have been to NYC a few time but never Katz Deli as I've heard about queues and there being better pastrami elsewhere. Your thoughts?

Queues are fine if you take away, it’s the seating that takes forever. The pastrami were awesome and the portion size is generous but the prices isn’t cheap. With pickles and a piece of latkes it came to $30.

Depends what time of year you go in my experiences. I've been twice to Katz's, once in December for lunch where we waited a good 10/15 minutes outside and another 10/15 to get served for a take out sandwich. I've more recently been in September for lunch and we walked right up to the counter with little to no wait and found a table right away.

Sorry to hear that. We have been eating at a place called The Mojo Market in Sea Point. There are lots of specialist food and drink retailers in one big social space. Achingly cool with great food www.mojomarket.co.za It reminds me of the Mercato Centrale in Florence. Our faves were the Mussel and Oyster place, and the Springbok Steak sandwiches.

Off to Stellenbosch today for a couple of days' wine-tasting funs :)

Edit: well-priced, too. Last night we spent £20 on a pizza, a springbok loin and mash dish, and a cheeky bottle of Cab Sauv.

Hi,

Off to Bordeaux, Biarritz, San Sebastian and Bilbao in a couple of weeks and looking for some restaurant recommendations.

Has anyone been to anywhere good? A lot of it is going to be just walking around, and nipping into the bars/cafes (especially in San Sebastian & Bilbao).

On the list:
Bordeaux: Chez Jean-Mi
Traditional brasserie, but struggling to find a consistently well reviewed one.

Biarritz:
No idea

San Sebastian:
Kokotxa is booked. I wanted to go to Arzak but I just can't justify that money on food at the minute, having eaten at a few 3 stars before I just don't think they're worth it...

Bilbao :
Nothing

I think I've read it in this thread before that some people have been to Michelin star restaurants here? I'm thinking about taking someone for a tasting session at a Michelin restaurant somewhere in London. Any one who could recommend me somewhere? I don't think any of us are picky with what food would be served there as we are both pretty open to try new experiences. What price ranges would a taster session usually be in?

Be a bit more specific. There are so many different cuisines and experiences available. Your request is sort of like saying I want to take someone to one of the top ten tripadvisor rated restaurants in London. The Michelin score is in theory based solely on the quality of food rather than experience.

Le Gavroche was very very good when we went, but there are many many more fine dining restaurants which are worthy of your attention.

The problem is that I'm not sure what cuisine we would like to start with. We are both pretty much "eats anything" and are always happy to try different cuisines. The main thing I found tempting is one of those taster menu's where you get several portions during the sitting so you can really experience the different styles of cooking and quality as well. If not I'm happy with suggestions for good places so I can research them a bit before deciding where to go.

Ok, what is your budget? Taster menus can start around £50 per person, and go up to £300. That excludes drinks and service.

Booked it ages ago and last week finally got to the Kitchen. No tasting menu but we had the £35 lunch menu which was great value, Pre starter, bread, pallet cleanser then 3 courses, drinks were really expensive though. Dish of the day for me was the starter, which was squid, with a squid ink tuile and potato risotto. Fantastic experience and would recommend it, looks like we will have to go back to edinburgh for the tasting menu. :D
