What the hell is this? (Small animal)

It's a vole.
Where did you find it? As long as it wasn't in the clutches of a cat release it back where you got it. Or failing that, a field. As long as it's not hurt it should be ok, though, they're highly territorial so try to release him back near as possible to where you got him. He's probably terrified and he could have a heart attack.
If you're adamant about keeping him till tomorrow don't handle him and leave him alone. They eat grasses and bulb roots.
 
Take it back outside and let it go in a grassy area. It's the best thing you can do if it's uninjured. This isn't a pet, it's a wild (albeit cute) animal. It's probably scared witless of you so let it go.

It is slow because most likely it's being drugged by the rat posion - as the ones in our studios are

Rat poison doesn't drug stuff :( ... It thins the blood a lot causing the animal to bleed interally everytime it brushes into something...

Lovely way to go :(

OP's creature looks like a Shrew although it could also be a fieldmouse
 
These things can die very suddenly from 'stress' so don't be surprised if it's dead when you check it tomorrow.

Also, when you release it I suggest doing so at dusk, as they are nocturnal. So disturbing it during the day will only add to it's stress.
