What time do you go to bed and wake up in the morning?

Only getting 4 hours sleep is terrible for your health.

Well it varies between 4 and 5 and i've been doing it for 20-odd years now and have had no health issues, it feels pretty normal to me but im only in early 40s, perhaps it's not viable as you get older. Maybe sleeping longer at weekends helps even it out ?

Anywhere between 12-4am and get up anywhere from 7-10am. I have a weird work schedule so may start as late as 3pm or as early as 10am and work until 10-11pm.

So basically I don't really have a sleep pattern, could be as little as 3 hours and as much as 10 :p

Weekdays
Go to sleep 21:30-23:00

Up at 06:00 during weekdays, log onto work at 6:15 the aim.

It was 11pm sleep last night, as hey its Friday! however regretting that now as:

weekends

05:00-05:30 A.M. get up, the kids have some inbuilt thing where during the week, happily sleep until 7 if you left them, but no not weekends.
I feel hungover and I did not have a drink last night!
For this reason, I struggle to catch the start of match of the day (22:30pm ish) at weekends.

If I'm day shift, in bed around 2100, up at 0400.

Night shift is where I struggle. In bed 0700-0800, depending on how late I finish, but somehow always manage to wake up at 1130.

Days off, in bed 2300-0000, up about 0730.

Shift work sucks.

You could be one of the very very very rare people, who can pull this off with no negative health consequence. Judging by your reason for sleeping so little I do not think you are in this category.

Long term lack of sleep, will affect your brains performance and there are other problems that you will pay for later in life. I think i saw somewhere that there is a link between dementia and a life long lack of sleep.

asleep at 9:30pm and up at 6:00am everyday. I don't need to be up that early I just like it. I stick to the same routine unless I am forced to go out for a meal or drinks which is rare.

Usually between 2am-3am and wake up 9.30am-10.30am

That gives me anxiety! :D

The thought of being up at that time of the day and really doesn't make me happy!

Knowing me I'd still be up by 530am anyway. 20+ years of getting up early is a hard habit to break.

You may be one of the very rare exceptions.... But the overwhelming research and evidence really does suggest that minimum 6hrs of quality sleep is needed and ideally 8 is what people should aim for. I personally vary between 6.5-7hrs sleep which is ok but not great.

The other caveat is if you do naps. So if you sleep 4-5hrs at night if you get another 2-3hrs later then it's actually pretty good. Modern society has wiped out our ability to nap now unfortunately.

Shift work sucks.

I did shift work, continental shift, for about a year. I can safely say I'll sign on as benefits scum before I do that again. It is absolutely ridiculous how bad it is for you.

(I never got a notification to say you'd replied, Dids)

I haven't heard of a continental shift pattern. Had a quick Google, which gave many examples. What pattern were you doing?

The best (for me at the time, it's all subjective, and I'd still happily do it now if the opportunity arose) shift pattern I've ever had was when I worked 1200-0000, Fri-Mon x 3, 2 weeks off, Mon, Tues, then rinse and repeat. Loved it. The worst was in Kuwait, leading up to/during/after Gulf War II. Permanent nights averaging a night off every 17. Crap times.

Go to bed about 10.30-12.00, alarm goes off at 8pm every day of the week. Have chronic insomnia so usually manage 3-7 hours actual sleep in that time.

Three days on ---> Three nights on ---> Four days off ---> Four days on ---> Four nights on ---> 6 days off

The 6 days off were the only good thing, that and the fact that I used to basically play Destiny for 10 hours a night when on nights, plus unrestricted usage of the gym and kichens and whatnot. The thing was that I had no social life as I worked 50% of my weekends and the other 50% I just felt rough as my body never got used to it. Then I'd work nights and when I finish, go home and sleep, which isn't really proper sleep as society is making a racket around you and the sun is up. Add in the summer heat and it was unbearable. People used to tell me to enjoy the 6 days off, but when 5 of them are weekdays and all your friends and family are working, you quickly run out of things to do and just end up lonely and moping around the house like a lost dog.

Never again.
