What time do you turn up for work?

Have to be in for 8.45 and i arrive at bang on 8.45...
If early i sit in car on car park!
I know if i get in any sooner im soon answering phones or responding to emails, so dont bother.
Ill get in and say hi to everyone then make me a cuppa and then start work

Official working hours for me are 8:30 - 17:30. Typically I'm in the office for 7:45. Normally I'm too busy to break for lunch, but I always make sure I'm out the door at 17:30 (for my one hour commute home).

Our place has flexitime which is good, but normally works against me. Lose hundreds of hours a year.

Currently doing a an 8 - 4 pattern and get in half an hour early.

Commute is horrible. Only 40 miles but via coach, so takes about 4~6 hours a day all in, depending on traffic on the A2/Blackwall tunnel.

I normally get there about half an hour earlier than my start time.. Can be more but can also be less depending on public transport.
When I get there early I'll probably have breakfast, see if anything needs sorting out before my shift starts.
I need to have my pc up and running before my start time and that takes about 10 minutes.

I start when i get there (assuming I don't have a meeting starting at X am) - if I decide to go in, get a coffee then actually do something then tbh I expect nobody to have any problem with that - similarly i don't really care what hours anyone who works for me does so long as they deliver.

On the other hand i don't expect anything back the many days I'm there from half 6/7 till the same time at night...nor do I expect there to be a problem when I leave at 2 the odd day or take some flexi.

It's just a balance really and something we do really well - too well for those with a tendency to take without really giving anything back

I don't understand why people feel the need to turn up early to have a brew... you can have a brew at any time during the working day.... no reason why they can't turn up at their exact starting time and have a brew (assuming they work in an office job).

I have an office job but we have a meeting that starts at my exact starting time.... personally not that bothered whether I get a drink beforehand though.

As for the OP I usually arrive about 20-25mins early, sometimes later depending on train delays. Given a more reliable commute I would probably aim to arrive about 5 minutes early.

Turn up most days 5 to 10 minutes late and take an hour lunch break everyday despite only being granted 30 minutes.

But then, I'm the only one who knows the internal software inside out and been described by my former boss as "must not be lost at any cost" so it never gets brought up in appraisals and never been told off by my line management regarding time-keeping. :D

In my defence, I'm someone who can work extremely fast but for short periods of time. For example, there's a guy who consistently does 10 hour days but I can get just as much done, if not more, than him in 6 hours.

I work from home now so it's a case of rolling out of bed, grabbing a coffee then hitting my office until the late hours. No set hours as long as work gets done I keep my job! Used to have to commute along the M62 everyday stuck in traffic and I certainly don't miss it. Used to arrive on time but leave late after traffic died down a bit.

Run my own company so whenever I like :p

Generally aim to be there for 8-9am but usually straight out to sites or meetings. Leave when I've done all I wanted to achieve for the day. Be it 10am or 10pm. I don't sit around bored and watch a clock

Start at 8am, show up 8.05am

My colleague now tells me to show up 15 minutes early and I am still late.

What can I say?

Caffeine, about 90% of the world's population are addicted to it, yet half of them will happily take a pop at smokers or heavy drinkers for having ''addictions".

Its like people's reactions to energy drinks. They chug cup after cup of coffee then tell me how much caffeine is in a can of monster.

Reading this thread its crazy how much time people give for free

Usually about 5-10 minutes before I start then I start at my starting time. We don't all have the luxury of swaning in and out at a time that suits.

I generally turn up 25 - 30 mins before the start of of my shift i.e 06:30 / 13:30 or 21:30. I hate it when people turn up 10 mins before they are due to start, especially when i'm waiting to go home after a night shift. We do however have one guy who sits in the car park and reads his kindle for a good hour before he starts shift.........regardless of what shift he is on.
