What time do you turn up for work?

depends on the job, what I have to do and how much I care.

I was annoyed when working at one place with people turning up late, my temp manager at the time was like "I don't see 1 minute as late, just give them a break" so all late reports went straight to HR.

If you are due to start at X time, you arrive with enough time to do what ever it is that you need to do and be sat at your desk, logged in and ready to start work at X. we had people that would arrive at 07:30 when their shift starts, then go and make a brew, have a catch up and grab some breakfast and not be at their desk until 07:45. Even though it was an office job it was production line style work. You will be doing this job from X to Y then move to this chat room. All rota'd, HQ monitored coverage and any gaps came down on our management level.

I get picked up, so normally just before/just on time/or late.

I obviously then spend half hour making a brew before starting work...

That's the way to do it...

My shifts are 7am to 7pm days and vice versa on nights.

I normally turn up around 10 minutes before, get changed into my work coveralls then check the work diary to see what work is on for the day.

I then make a brew, sit around for 30 minutes to an hour or two, play a game of uckers, take the **** out of the 8-5 day workers before actually being told to do something.

Work isn't all that bad.

Contracted to be in @8.25
Normally in by 7:30.... I seem to get more work done in that 1 hour than if I stayed at home.

are you sitting around because there is nothing to do, or is it a case of having work and just not doing it?

Sounds like your workplace has some disposable staff and some money it could save......

I start 8:15 and work until 6. Im usually in the office at 7:45 due to travel arrangements and usually grab a few brews and chew the fat for about 15 mins with a few work colleagues who also get in early until 8 when they start, then i skulk back to my desk, boot up my pc, check my calender and glare at how busy i am (which is a good and bad thing, then get cracking at 8:15

8:30, get in, clock in, put stuff in locker, get tool box and chair, sitdown wait for start of shift meeting at 8:45

start work officially 9:00am get into office 6:50am
finish work 5:00pm
drink coffee check email
then crack on from 7:30-8:00
depends on what tech issues there are to deal with :)
I go in early because
A:i need to avoid traffic delays
B: i love what i do
so i do not mind getting an early start,
my work are very flexible if i ever want/Need time off to do anything
school sports day's etc i do not need to ask to take time off :)

In before 10:00 and out the door by 6:30.

Used to work 50-60 hour weeks when I was rewarded for it, but those days have gone, so I work close to my contracted hours.

I've always had the mindset to arrive early for work, however at the moment it takes the **** becuase of commute time i'm always in office at least 2 hours early.

I can start anytime between 08:30 and 10, but generally prefer the 8:30 to get out earlier.

So based on that, I try to get in for 08:20, make a coffee, and then at my desk ready to go at 8:30.

That may change in a few months when I get the ability to work from home, but I think I would still rather go into the office, I would procrastinate too much at home I think.

Caffeine, about 90% of the world's population are addicted to it, yet half of them will happily take a pop at smokers or heavy drinkers for having ''addictions".

Please feel free to tell us about all the deaths, health problems, and social issues attributed to caffeine consumption? ;)

Edit: It's not the addiction itself that's the issue, so much as the negative effects caused by it.

It seems the deciding factor is traffic for you London workers and the fact that many of you office workers can start work as soon as your pc is fired up.

Supervisory roles require a handover so I guess being in however long that takes is important too. But companies should factor that into working hours. So many of these norms save businesses a fortune.

Normally get in for around 8am if traffic isn't too bad.
I generally turn up about 25 minutes before I'm scheduled to start work in the morning, on a Friday I'll turn up a good 45-50 minutes early because of getting a lift in with someone who does an early shift for their job.

Works out fairly well for me as rather than running with overtime, we use a time off in lieu system. So over the course of two to three weeks I've gained a day off that I can take whenever I need a little break.

start at 8am get to work at 7:55am.

Never earlier than then. I dont get paid for starting early.
