What time do you turn up for work?

Totally disheartened with current job, so turning up late most days atm - not maliciously just no motivation to get up etc. I am about 11.5 weeks into a 13 week notice period mind and prior to recent drop was always in the 5-10 min early camp.

I've done the whole 80 hour week 14+ hour day thing and it got me nowhere, both in my career and my personal life. Starting at 6am (or earlier if I was having a bout of insomnia due to stress) and finish at 8 or 9pm and often worked on Saturdays and the occasional Sunday. It was a contracted 35 hour week but as I was covering both USA and Singapore the work just piled up.

Normally a few minutes before/after start time (8am to 4pm) but I often work through lunch if I'm busy and will work late. Quite honestly I have better things to do than give hours of my time away to the corporate machine these days.

A lot of my friends are expected to come in early and do a minimum of 2 hours unpaid overtime a day - quite honestly I think that's bad management and breeds a poor work culture.

I'm in the ten minute brigade although lately I'm just on time/slightly late. I dont drink coffee and I dont smoke so they do get a full day out of me, if there is anything needing done I have been known to come in early or stay late depending.

I dont mind doing overtime, I'd much rather be at home but when I do need time off or just a quick pop out for anything then they are always pretty good about it, if you want to take you have to give a little back.....right?

I think my official contracted hours are 0930 to 1730 but public transport makes it easier to get in at around 0840, so I leave at around 1700. Unless I'm swamped, then I will stay late to get stuff done, but that's very rare.

15 minutes early generally due to unpredictable traffic and lift sharing, where I've had to compromise a little as she likes to arrive a touch earlier than I.

Due to being terrible in the mornings (especially in winter), i'm usually 5-20 minutes late most days. I always stay on to compensate, but still feel guilty.

I just ****ing hate mornings!

Over the past couple of years I've changed my usual 9-5 to doing a 8 to 4.45 (although get in 10 mins earlier than that). I like the fact I can avoid any traffic and consistently do the 30 min drive with zero holdups, and arrive before colleagues get here. I could potentially do what ever hours I choose as I help run the business but clients like to know you're around at usual office hours.

If I have a meeting or I have lots to do I might go in early, my contacted hours are 9 - 5.30pm, but in general we're expected to be in at 8.45am, so that is when I arrive.

I also aim to leave as soon after 5.30pm as I can but I stay late if I need to, and I often have to be out at meetings or events late, for example tonight I have to go to London for some focus groups that won't end until 10pm.

It ****es me off that I feel bad when I walk out at 5.30pm. Just because other people don't value their work/life balance I don't see why I should be looked down upon for it. I don't mind working late if I have a deadline but if it's expected of me that annoys me.

are you sitting around because there is nothing to do, or is it a case of having work and just not doing it?

Nothing to do.

Sounds like your workplace has some disposable staff and some money it could save......

The Military is getting cut enough and we are still undermanned with engineers on my Squadron. The Squadron I work on has 8 aircraft, 1 of which is permanently away on depth maintenance in the States. Another is in the Hanger having 3 monthly minor checks done which is contracted to Boeing civilians. So that's only 6 aircraft to look after, sometimes all of them or a handful are away or all are at home. But if their is no aircraft maintenance to do that day, may as well make myself comfy until I'm stood down.

I'm contracted to 37.5 hours a week with core hours between 9 and 5 but the company I work for is very forward thinking and supportive regarding flexible working

In reality I get to work for sometime between 7.30 and 8.30 depending on the traffic and leave most nights for 4.00 which gives great opportunity to help with the kids and be home at a decent hour. I also try and work from home at least one day a week.

The flipside of this however is the trips to London (being in head office for 8.00 is a 4.30 wake up) and long days if I'm back on the same day and the late nights / working through the night when we are busy and work needs to be done (at home after the rest of the family are in bed) to meet deadlines / reports / tenders etc

All in all I don't mind as I'm quite autonomous aneed gives me a lot of flexibility for work / life balance :)

Can start between 7am and 10am but I usualy turn up at about 7:10 - 7:15 depending on traffic then leave at around 15:15.

Got some others that do similar but they roll up at about 7:30 then just do absolutely nothing until others turn up around 8:30, really annoys me.

Late every day almost without fail.
I am absolutely terrible at getting up in the morning, constantly hitting snooze on my alarm until I get up either leaving myself 10 minutes to get ready and get out of the house or late.
I even work from 2 different sites, 1 is 30 minutes away one is about 1hr 15mins dependant on traffic, start time same at both and I am still late.

If I am on time I am normally walking through the door at the exact time I am mean to start.

15 minutes late is not unusual for me.
My boss has gone mad at me a few times about it :(

im reliably late:D or rather I am contracted for 40 hours with no times.
I sort of come and go as I please but do my hours, helps me stay outside of IR35 as well. Due to being a contractor I sort of work on my own work load and projects so I don't see the need for me to show my face at the same time everyday as long as the work is completed.

My hours are 8:30-5 but I'm generally in between 8-8:30 depending on traffic. I drop the wife off on the way to work and as she's a teacher she likes to get there for 8am or before, so I'm typically a fair bit early (we work 10 minutes apart). Considering how bad the traffic is lately I might look into seeing if flexitime is a possibility as the amount of roadworks on my route home is a nightmare at the moment. Leaving even 15 minutes early can really help to beat the 5pm rush.
