What to upgrade?

Goodluck with your OC I have my 920 running at 4ghz on air and I certainly notice an improvement. Just remember little steps at a time :D

pretty similar it seems, thought theyd drop a bit more with that fan

So you have gone from averaging 90C to doing 46C by just getting a case fan to work and new paste:cool:

Seems lower than I would have expected, but if thats what it says:)

With Prime95 cooking the chip nicely, You could consider upto 80C safe after a overclock (the actual limit is higher again, but not for sustained use personally), if you get a result nearer 70C after the OC, then your looking good I feel.

Overclock it and test the temps as you go and keep an eye on it.

also if i was to buy a 7970, would that work with my mobo etc? or would it be overkill for everything i have? i know everyone says wait for the new nvidia cards to come, but im mega impatient like that lol. If my overclocking goes smooth, il wanna upgrade my card, and prob buy a ssd to.

Srilll reading up on overclocking to make sure i dont f it up lol im such a wimp.

ooooo sounds great. il be buying one soon then no doubt haha, then save some money, n get another in CF sometime. Once you get into computer parts n stuff its hard to resist it seems. Ive taken a bigger interest in how everythign works lately, and i just want to spend money it seems lol

does it matter what brand, MSI seems more expensive than the xfx and saphire

Me personally would either get the cheapest stock cooler design one, The XFX with the custom coolers are huge money and not worth it.

Edit.. You could save nearly £100 again and get a stock 7950, thats still a huge step up from what you have.

Ok so i restarted ready to enter bios and begin overclocking, however, after hitting DEL to enter the bios, it just loads a black screen with a white underscore line in the top left flashing, and does nout else? so i guess its not loading bios.. anyone know why ? :(

Just keep hitting DEL, it will then enter bios.

Turn power off at the wall, leave it a bit and retry?

Or

Turn power off, remove the battery on the board for a minute and then refit it and try again.

ye i tried hittin del, still just loads the black screen and flashing cursor, tried an old keyboard instead of USB, no luck. will try the power thing, no idea how to remove the battery though.

Theres a tiny metal flappy thing to push to one side and the battery falls out, be ready to catch it if theres the chance it can fall into a up facing PSU.

k got into it, ive tried some overclocking, total fail i think lol, tried 3.3ghz following a guide, it booted, then restarted, then got to windows, soim on now checking prime n that. And everything seems to be the same, like my cpu is still the same speed.

You are checking the core speed with CPU-Z? check the speed while under load (using Prime95 again)

yea, it had been reset bacvk to normal settings cuz of a bad boot/overclock i think. ive tried a few times and it fails to boot to windows, then i get a message saying bad overclock etc
