Just finished Star Trek:Voyager
I did watch it back in the day, but now with streaming services thought I would go through this again, I hadn't seen all the episodes and couldn't remember it that well.
What can I say about Voyager....
Seven seasons in total, the first few seasons were pretty bad. Both characters Kes and Neelix got a lot of screentime in the first few seasons, both in my opinion were very poor characters. Kes was just wet and in my opinion pretty poor acting, and I found Neelix anoying. The epsidoes in general were just quite poor.
They binned off Kes and more or less replaced her with Seven of Nine around the start of season 3 and it significantly improved after that. I mean, she is easy on the eye sure, but better character and the episodes seemed to improve after that. Neelix also got a lot less screen time after that.
Both Seven of Nine, and the Doctor were really strong characters throughout, the Doctor probably being my favourite, Tuvok being a Vulcan allowed some interesting character interactions. Janeway I guess was a bit of an icon. The other characters weaker, the whole american indian thing with Chakotay just looks very cheesy and dated now.
Overall though I feel there were a lot of "filler episodes" throughout, they went for quantity over quality, although I guess to a certain extent they are trying to appeal to a wider audience, however every now and then they would throw in some really good episdoes, and the good ones were really good. The series also did give you a good sense of their journey, for example throughout the seasons the races they would encouter would change and they progress through the Delta quandrant, it did give you a feel of the distance they had travelled.
Probably go through Deep Space 9 next.
