What TV shows are you currently watching

Finished all of Money Heist (Netflix) and have to agree it's superb. It's a little silly at times and there are a couple of convenient things to help move the plot along, but the story is great, acting superb and it's a 'Game of Thrones' style of you just not being sure who will survive or will the gang succeed in the end.

I think I would probably move it into my all time top 5 with Justified, GoT, The Americans and... hmmm, not sure the other actually, so maybe even Top 4!

Having said that, I wouldn't call it an easy watch, in that it's stressful at times, watching all these things go wrong

Good to see Mayor of Kingstown just started S2, but I might wait for them all to air before starting back on that.

Just finished Star Trek:Voyager

I did watch it back in the day, but now with streaming services thought I would go through this again, I hadn't seen all the episodes and couldn't remember it that well.

What can I say about Voyager....

Seven seasons in total, the first few seasons were pretty bad. Both characters Kes and Neelix got a lot of screentime in the first few seasons, both in my opinion were very poor characters. Kes was just wet and in my opinion pretty poor acting, and I found Neelix anoying. The epsidoes in general were just quite poor.

They binned off Kes and more or less replaced her with Seven of Nine around the start of season 3 and it significantly improved after that. I mean, she is easy on the eye sure, but better character and the episodes seemed to improve after that. Neelix also got a lot less screen time after that.

Both Seven of Nine, and the Doctor were really strong characters throughout, the Doctor probably being my favourite, Tuvok being a Vulcan allowed some interesting character interactions. Janeway I guess was a bit of an icon. The other characters weaker, the whole american indian thing with Chakotay just looks very cheesy and dated now.

Overall though I feel there were a lot of "filler episodes" throughout, they went for quantity over quality, although I guess to a certain extent they are trying to appeal to a wider audience, however every now and then they would throw in some really good episdoes, and the good ones were really good. The series also did give you a good sense of their journey, for example throughout the seasons the races they would encouter would change and they progress through the Delta quandrant, it did give you a feel of the distance they had travelled.

Probably go through Deep Space 9 next.
Deep Space Nine is much better IMO but there's still some real dross in seasons 1 and 2.

Monster in My Family on itvX.

There seems to be 2 seasons worth and it starts with John Wayne Gacy, Clown Killer.

Already really fascinated as the sister of him is telling us about growing up with him etc.

Think it might have been on sky previously but worth a watch if it's your kind of thing.

I saw the documentary Columbine Survivors Explain What Really Happened yesterday.

Very sad, especially when you catch just a glimpse of the effect it had on the townsfolk, e.g. Daniel Mauser's father.

@BUDFORCE I've got a soft spot for Voyager too, I agree that the Doctor and Seven of Nine are the stand out characters from a storytelling perspective once the show gets going.

Deep Space 9 is less like Star Trek TOS but very good, the Dominion arc plays out so well as the show goes on.

I'm now onto season 3 of Stranger Things, really love this show. I like Steve and Jim Harper they are very different characters but I like the redemptive elements of their stories. It's a great cast of characters and the actors do a great job of bringing them too life. If I hadn't just watched Andor I'd be certain that this was the best thing I've seen in a long time by a country mile. Instead it may be just the best thing I've seen in a long time.

There is a Storyville documentary on the BBC iPlayer, where they interview the mother of one of the shooters, from that school shooting.

I think they also interview the father and step mother of the other shooter.

It was a while ago I saw it but it was really thought provoking to hear how much they were affected too, and also victims of their own kids atrocities.

S3 of Stranger Things was really a slog for me, by that time, the nostalgic charm has worn off and it was relying a lot on the writing more, of which the quality dips drastically. It's passable sure but the weakest of the 4 seasons to the point myself and as you can see in the Stranger Things thread, a lot of others were ready to give up on the show entirely.

Then S4 came out after a few years delay and blindsided almost everyone, a nice redemption arc for the writers themselves in that they listened to criticisms and made an absolutely standout season.

@SixTwoSix I'm coming at it binge all 4 seasons back to back for the first time so maybe I'm not feeling the problems with season 3 so badly. There have been a few silly bits but still really enjoying. Glad to hear S4 is even better.
Another thing on a personal level, they really sold the body horror aspect of S3 prior to release, which is one of my favourite horror sub-genres so maybe my expectations were a touch high and unreasonable.

That's great news, i'm 5 episodes in and can easily see myself carrying straight onto S2. I rarely ever go season to season with a show so it's testament to it's quality.

Now if only Sheridan could put the same quality of writing into Yellowstone we'd be cooking.

Finished off Kaleidoscope on Netflix last night, not the greatest show ever but enjoyable enough. I liked the concept of showing the episodes in a random order but can help thinking I would have enjoyed it more in chronological order.

Just back from visiting family in the UK. Netflix has some different things on there. Downloaded series 1 of Benidorm to my ipad to watch on the plane home. Absolutely hilarious. Just purchased series 2 and 3 on DVD from Ebay for a tenner :D

Gangs of London - Holy **** that was brutal!! But really really good!

Just started the first episode of The Offer and that was surprisingly engaging! looking forward to the rest of the series
