Missus has started watching The Full Monty on Disney+

5 episodes in and it's okay but starting to be more like a South Yorkshire soap opera, with overtones of Last Of The Summer Wine, Auf Wiedesen Pet and Boys From The Black Stuff. Can't make its mind up whether to be funny or serious and while each episode tries to concentrate on one character in particular, still jumping round all over the place. A bit over woke in some places, too.

Still the social observations particularly in the first episode are spot on.

Mentioned this to my wife who didn't know what The Full Monty was (not a brit so i'll allow it :D ) - so showed her the trailer and while it's aged painfully, I look forward to having a rewatch of it with her over the weekend.

Started watching Drops of God on Apple. Seems pretty decent from the first few episodes. A mix of English, French and Japanese so needs subtitles!

this week i've watched both the conclusion of 'Best Interests" which is powerful and heartbreaking. its premise is the predicament the parents of a severely disabled daughter are put in when the hospital she is receiving treatment at make the decision to withdraw treatment

then on Wednesday the one-off special of 'There She goes' which is also at points heartbreaking, but then David Tennant manages to use imaginative anglo-saxon terms to lift the spirit back up!

if you get the chance watch the two earlier series' of 'The She goes'
its premise is very similar, but the daughter (Rosie) in this show has an autism-like condition, along with severe learning difficulties caused by a chromosome-related condition

Shaun Pye (comedy actor/writer) wrote the script and it's based on his & his partners experiences with their own daughter Joey, who has the condition which is manifested in Rosie

David Tennant & Jessica Hynes really excel in the role of Rosie's parent's using Shaun Pye's scriptwriting. and to point out another fact: Miley Locke, who plays the part of Rosie has no autistic-conditions. she just nailed the role perfectly

Episode 7 very poignant ending, though you could kind of see they were leading up to that all along.

Watching the last one tonight - very much a show that started strong, dipped in the middle then rallied for the finish.

Finished Ted Lasso, it’s pretty good, but some fillers in the middle that I got quite bored. Season 1 was the best and then Season 3. Season 2 was a bit of struggle at times.

Finished Star Trek The Next Generation, takes some time to get going but at its peak it’s one the best sci-fi shows I’ve seen. Drifts off towards the end and they do a lot of repeat scenarios with different faces, but still good watching.

Half way through DS9 S1 and I already feel like it’s going to top TOS and TNG, shame about the recording quality though.

I'm halfway through TNG S4. Just watched The Wounded - Captain Maxwell goes rogue on the Cardassians:

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Maxwell was right. Those ships were not carrying scientific equipment, were they? A research station within arm's reach of three Federation sectors? Cargo ships running with high-energy subspace fields that jam sensors?
Gul Macet: If you believe the transport ship was carrying weapons, Captain... why didn't you board it, as Maxwell requested?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: I was here to protect the peace - a peace that I firmly believe is in the interests of both our peoples. If I had attempted to board that ship, I'm quite certain that you and I would not be having this pleasant conversation - and that ships on both sides would now be arming for war.
Gul Macet: Captain, I assure you...
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Take this message to your leaders, Gul Macet: we'll be watching.

The delivery of that by Picard was perfect - got goosebumps!

I've just finished watching the Australian crime series Savage River. It's only 6 episodes (though each episode is quite long).

It's a deep tangled storyline done in a light slow atmosphere.

A couple of faces are known from other shows like Wentworth, Mystery Road Origin, and one actress was in the excellent Australian police series, City Homicide (Nadine Garner).

It's currently on channel 5's app.

I have been watching the documentary program 'disasters at sea' on youtube

Found it interesting how some of the most basic errors in seaman ship and bring down a whole ship. (ive been watching it since before the titanic sub disaster happened, so its nothing to do with that, I swear!)

ZeroZeroZero

It's about the drug trade from all aspects. The cartels themselves, the people who ship the drugs and the mafia who take the drugs at the port. Very good.

Good cast - Gabriel Byrne, Dana DeHaan

One of my favourite standalone series of the last few years, very well crafted for a multi layer story across continents and the acting/set pieces, especially in the south american parts is outstanding.

Have you watched Gomorra, hits very similar beats?

Thanks, I hadn't heard of that. Will definitely check it out.

Edit - they've taken it off Amazon so might have to buy it.
