What TV shows are you currently watching

Just finished watching Mr Inbetween on Disney Plus. I really enjoyed it and it reminded me of Ray Donovan, but set down under! :D

When I've finished a series or film I like to go off and find more about what the actors have been in or might be in for the future. Well, Scott Ryan is great in this and he's only ever played the same character! From a film in 2005 and this TV series. He either makes a crap ton from royalties or this is actually based on his real life job! :D

Edit: As he writes, produces and acts in his own material!

Just finished The Offer too, not really knowing much about The Godfather, it being before my time and probably just too long for me (I might try now, in two sittings). Very good TV though, although I feel the first half was better than the second half. I thought there might have been loads on IMDb about bits that are true and which aren't, but there's only one comment in Trivia about that, not all the gangster stuff was true basically...

Feels like the show slipped under the radar which is odd given the cast.

I’d never really watched the films either but watched the first too now. It’s funny noticing certain things in the films that they make a big deal of in the show (like when Michael should drop the gun) although as you say unsure how much is original and how much is rewritten from the films.

We’re currently binging Kaos which has also been really good so far.

Daughter recently finished Modern Family, so was looking for a new show. Recommended Scrubs, HIMYM and similar - she's started Fresh off the Boat - never seen it.

But i watched the first episode of Scrubs just to see if it's as great as i remember and now i'm onto season 4! I love Scrubs and rewatch every few years :)

I love scrubs, but really on for Dr Cox monolgues and the janitor:) Main two idiots kinda get on my nerves.

Finally finished TWD, been binging it on and off since about March.

Season 1-5 were great TV. Some crap mixed in as with most shows but generally gripping with a likable cast.

Season 6 was when my interest started to wane a little but was still pretty good. The 'Gimple' cracks were showing at this point though.

Season 7-8 were dire. Without these two I'd probably have finished the show in May. JDM's charisma and Andrew Lincoln's emotional range couldn't save these seasons from the godawful writing. The showrunner clearly enjoyed the smell of his own farts too much to notice the show was going to ****.

Season 9-10 were a return to form and would have been held in much higher regard if season 6 lead into these two instead of 7 and 8. Season 9 especially was fantastic imo and had arguably the last big shocking scene.

Season 11 was pretty bad too, felt like it had the budget of S1. The first 8 episodes were completely and utterly pointless with some of the worst excuse for villains in the entire show. The rest of the season was so on the nose and borderline cartoony with its antagonists despite arguably being the most realistic in the series that I couldn't take it seriously and the amount of times they'd show characters getting into desperate situations only to fast forward to them after the fact was insufferable. The final 'battle' was atrocious and made barely any sense based on how dire the situation was supposed to be.

Overall worth the watch but I can see why people stopped watching when it was airing and never went back. The first few seasons were pretty special though.

I’ve been rewatching Game of Thrones and have just cleared the first 2 seasons.

Season 1 is masterful. Everything is so brilliantly balanced. Brutal, high stakes, good intrigue from the “what happened to John Arryn?” side. Great dynamics between characters. Probably one of the best series of a show ever.

There is a bit of a misstep though, which is the portrayal of the horrible misogyny and sexualisation of women in the ‘story’, whilst simultaneously titillating the audience with so much gratuitous female nudity. I’m pretty sure this gets toned down in later seasons but it does feel a little clumsy and insincere. “Look at these poor woman suffer and be sexualised… BuT u LoVE tO sEe It!”. And no this isn’t offset by having a gay scene between men.

In hindsight, Season 2 is a pretty big step down. It’s a lot goofier with the fantasy elements. There’s a lot of ‘off screen’ battling. The ‘big battle’ at the end is well done but the ending is extremely abrupt with Tywin just announcing the outcome (“we ran out of budget”). Some of the plot arcs are stretched and feel comparatively ‘filler’ compared to season 1, when you know what’s going to follow. Tyrion and Tywin steal the series though and are generally great.

Put it this way: series 1 feels very standalone and ‘essential’, commanding of attention etc. Series 2 feels more like chapters in a massive book - probably because it is.

Still great overall - looking forward to series 3.

I want to see it even though the final season and episode are apparently a bit of a letdown.

Back on Lost as it's on Netflix. Last watched it about fifteen years ago. Was one of my favourite shows as a kid. Hopefully the spectacles weren't too rose tinted..

First 3 or 4 seasons were great, but as is typical with a lot of shows they veer off down a different storyline and go a bit naff.

Definitely watch it. My only caveat to that is that it is very brutal / tragic with characters being mistreated and worse, which can make it a hard watch at times.

I enjoyed the last seasons at the time, maybe they won’t hold up so well on this viewing but it needed wrapping up and ending.

If you have somehow avoided spoilers then never look at this thread / the internet again until you have finished :p

Edit: I’d probably say GoT is my all time favourite show.

I have forgiven Game of Thrones and will very likely watch this again in the future multiple times, and may even actually watch the final episode which I still haven't watched. But I will never ever re-watch Lost. Sorry. :)
