What TV shows are you currently watching

Just started Paramount's new show Landman.

First 2 episodes are very good and Billy the Bob Thornton is superb.
Gonna give this a go. Trying to get back into the habit of watching stuff weekly. Especially if I can get something good for most evenings.

(Bad Sisters) Watched the first episode last night and yes, a good setup for the rest of Season 2.

Episode 3 of season 2 seems to be pushing things towards a very dark direction, again I'm not a big fan of all the social drama aspects but that aside it is very well written.

Just watched that one and yes most of the humour from the first season has departed. The priest with the stroke affected voice was just absurd and barely credible. Suspect I can see where the story is going but I don't think it will be the rollercoaster that S1 offered. "JP" character is sorely missed, the actor (who I belive is actually Danish, not Irish) did a superb Machivellian job of the role and a hard act to follow.

Can you compare it to anything? I need to persuade the wife to watch it with me

It just has the same feel as the film The Batman, especially since it follows on immediately where the other ends, rather than a TV series. From the 1 episode I've seen, I'd say it's even a bit darker than the film. So if she liked The Batman, she'd like this.....if she didn't, not sure there's much hope to convince her!

Arcane s2 - only one episode on. Absolutely brilliant. Looks like s2 will be another 11/10!
Possibly my favourite TV series of all time if it maintains momentum

Silo - 1 episode in, looks promising. I think I'll prefer it to fallout. Which I didn't e joy.

Dark matter - 2 episodes in. Had to give up. The acting or writing is dire. Maybe both.

Leaving Bad Sisters aside for a minute...

The Winter King finally turned up on normal ITV (it premiered on ITX-X) so at least you can fast forward the adverts.

Oh dear... I read the books last year and Bernard Cornwell did a credible job of blending the characters from the Arthurian legend into the grim reality of pre Saxon Britain, when the Druids were still vying for supremacy against the rise of Christianity and the country was being invaded and colonised by the Saxons from Europe. In the books, Cornwell was deliberately ambiguous about magic and mysticism, nothing happened that couldn't be explained by non supernatural or other worldly forces. But already in Ep 1 people are having visions of the future events, etc. The start was very shaky. In the books Derfel is the main character and narrator so the story is told through his first person view. Instead we get a lot of Uther and Arthur and the actor playing Derfel is just awful. And without starting a debate about ethnic casting - a black Merlin? In the books he is described as having a dark (as in Celtic) complexion but not Afro-Caribbean. And there seemed to be far more people represented by actors from non white backgrounds than you would expect in that period of British history.

The main thrust of the first book was that Merlin was MIA and that the Druid community at Glastonbury (looked nothing like in the show) needed his (and Arthur's) returnand it wasn't until much later that Derfel found him, purely by accident.

Obviously the story has to be adapted and abridged somewhat for the show and The Last Kingdom also went a bit away from the books in many respects. But TWK seems to be doing it worse and also seems a lot lower budget than TLK.

It is certainly a struggle, it has redeeming qualities but there is also a lot to get past. I feel like it is a rough cut for what could have been a very good show if they'd taken a step back.

I'll be giving that one a miss then as I personally thought The Batman was ****.

Personally, I don't think it's overly connected to Batman in any way.. and yes I know the main character is the Penguin.. but i'm not sure that has much bearing on it.. it's not like you need a batman history to enjoy the acting and storyline.. at most.. there are a few things that you're supposed to "know" (Arkham being a mental institution) but even then they make a point of telling you..

Acting is superb.. story is moving along nicely.. (I've only watched to EP3 so far) whats not to enjoy?!?!

Just started The Penguin, very enjoyable first episode with fairly standard mobster fare. Generally I think Batman works best when it's more campy and trying less to be grim dark, but this works really well so far I think because it doesn't involve Batman. I'm sure I watched The Batman but when I looked it up I'm not sure I remember any of it, maybe I'll watch it again this weekend and see if it refreshes my memory - is there anything from it that is it really critical to the story?
