What watch do you wear?

Hi guys,

What are your thoughts on this Muhle Glashutte Seebataillon GMT. Be interesting to hear before making the commitment with a jewelers to have the strap adjusted/cut.

I managed to pick it up for 2100 from FCW, instead of 2720. After looking around local jewelers yesterday and trying several different ones on, Tudor, Oris, Seiko etc (the majority at 41-43mm looked like a grape on my wrist.
I looked at a few pre owned omega seamasters but they were all at 41mm in my price range which were just too small.

It's rather large at 45mm and the angle of the last photo makes it look larger than what actually is (she said) need to get the strap cut to suit but will try book an appointment at a local jewelers.

It seemed to tick the majority of boxes, size, rubber strap, diver style, girth :p weight etc.

The only con I don't like about it is the strap is a cut to size strap, where as I sometimes like to slacken a rubber strap off if sweating.

You could use it as a dumbbell for workouts alternating wrists by the looks of that size too!

I personally don't like it. No hard feelings huh but it's too thick and looks way too big on your wrist.

That is good fit really, the other pic is too close and wide angle lens on phones make it look bigger than it is (hur!).

Here's a better more proportioned picture. As I say it is a larger case than most like, but being 6ft 6, 18/19 stone, a 41mm looks like a kids watch :p

As someone who is 6ft 4, 16 stone and has an 8 inch wrist with a roughly 2.5inch 'diameter' top view (wrist size being the key measurements imo) I'd say that looks a little big imo.
I've got a 45mm diver (this citizen but in black) for reference and mine wears a lot smaller than yours appears to on your wrist. Some of that is down the watch aesthetics, your muhle is a more chunky design and for lack of a better description 'blocky' with it's more solid colour face and bezel.

Just a side thought as well, that watch looks very similar to the mido ocean star gmt so if you were having 'second thoughts' and wanted to save money (assuming you can find in the UK) it might be something to consider.

To give you reference though, I think 40-41mm (I have a dress and pilots watch at these sizes) is the sweet spot for my wrist, although I know I could pull of a larger watch due to my wrist size. I've also found that while my watches all have different case sizes they all have pretty similar dial diameters when I exclude the case/bezels.

At the end of the day, it's not us who are wearing it and the simple question is this... do you like it and does it fit your wrist in your opinion. If both answers are yes, then what we think means nothing :)

It is nice to get other people's opinions though (who are more watch savvy) albeit not important so long as the purchaser like you say likes it :)

I think what contributes to it making it look even larger is the strap is not adjusted so adds even more bulk. It currently would fit as an ankle strap!

I was looking at the Oris Aviation big crown pro pilot meters, but that comes in at a whopping 47mm and 17mm thick!! :p good job I didn't....the comments would have came thick and fast :D

To be fair, pilots watches were traditionally meant to be larger... although at 47mm you might be close to bringing back the fashion of clocks round necks :p

edit: oris pro pilot big crown 44mm day date might be something to consider though, I've got the 41mm (I just preferred the smaller option) but tried the 44mm and it would have been fine on my wrist so would likely work for you as well.

It's a bit above your budget, but have you considered a used IWC Pilot? Maybe the big pilot or the pilots chrono? Would probably hold its value better too.

I personally think that looks a bit big on you but as others have said if you like it then that's all that matters. Just think about whether it will fit under your clothes, if you want it to!

Just my 2 cents!

OG pilot watches were 55mm :D

They were sized as such for a few reasons, they were worn over pilot flight jackets, and legibility in an instant. They also used pocket watch movements so that would have played a large (hehe) part in why they were so massive as movement technology for a chronometer grade didn't exist in a wristwatch back then!.

Dunno about you, but anything larger than 40mm on a pilot watch will just look too big for me if the original straight style lugs are on that watch :p

Speaking of which, had to bust out the big camera to snap the Laco on the canvas. Will be wearing this during the next wedding shoot when dressed up all sharp. I reckon it will look great with formal attire, something different and non-bling but still very fitting?discreet. I've worn the Stowa bronze with formal before and that was a sweet match although it suited naturally due to being bronze with a black strap.

I could probably just about pull off the 55mm with my 8inch wrist but I wouldn't want to and like I said in the edit I picked the 41mm of the oris I have because I just preferred the way it looked overall on my wrist, even though the 44mm would have been fine too.... the joys of a bigger wrist :P

Sorry but the picture hasn't changed my mind. No worries, all that matters is that you like it ;)

P.S: I'm a 1m89 / 100kg guy so I know what you mean about small watch on the wrist. I personally still think there's a right balance to find and it's not just about the size of the dial, which is what the usual "41mm, 42mm, etc. " classification indicates.

I got my Speedmaster back today from warranty repair. Collected from Watches of Switzerland in Stratford Westfield. No details were supplied of what was repaired / replaced, which is a shame. Looks good though, the case and bracelet were given a valet.

Gave it a wind whilst as soon as it was handed over to me in the store and it's back to the normal 25+ turns to fully wind, loud, crispy and snappy gear noise when turning. Nice and normal.

Great to have it back!

Also came away with a free travel case:

The Speedy still hasn't made it into my forever pile which was really unexpected for me as I lusted after it for so long. The King Seiko/Forstner Presidential I put on it made me like it a bit more; I think I need the 2021 Speedy bracelet to be 100% on it. It's a shame they are unobtainium!
