What do people think of this: https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/...-chronometer-chronograph-38-mm-32432385002001

Currently got a Brietling Superocean (blue with blue strap) that I've had for about 8-9 years!

Treating myself to a new watch and looking to spend around £4-5k.

All recommendations welcome :)
Personally I'm not a fan of it either, not that my opinion matters, it's whether YOU like it or not. For me I'm not a fan of 3 sub dial speedmasters, feels a bit like I'd be 'following a trend' to me, although this is not the usual choice. I prefer the 2 dial speedmasters but they're out of your budget sadly and if I had to pick an omega it would like be an aqua terra with the red or yellow dial.... both 'waiting list' though.

In all honesty I'd struggle with suggestions around £4-5K, it's that weird spot in watch pricing where if you go a little higher you're getting close to JLC and the likes and if you go just below it you can find some really good 'value' (yeah I know it's nearly 4K but you get what I mean). Not saying Omega are bad but I cant say they'd be the watch brands I'd be paying for at those prices if you get me.

What exactly do you want the watch to do, you could be better served with 2x £2.5K watches for example.

A variety of Tudor watches, an Omega Seamaster 2531.80 and a Rolex that never gets worn as it's not worth getting stabbed for it.

Just seen the new Tudor Pelagos 39 on the website and tbh tempted as I'd trade/sell Tudor BB58, Pelagos and maybe 2022 Ranger for it.

Very very interesting, didn't know they were even planning a 39 Pelagos. The only reason I sold my OG Pelagos was because it's a bit of a chonk at 42mm, and the later models are even thicker still.

No date window too on the 39 but sadly looks like the micro self-adjusting clasp is no more which was the major USP for the Pelagos.... The RTudor rubber strap I found very uncomfortable too as it isn't as soft as you'd think and it has areas on the underside that dig into your wrist - It's clearly made to be worn over a wetsuit rather than bare skin.

I too find the rubber strap very uncomfortable, I like the Pelagos, but as you say it's such a chunky beast. I didn't see it coming either, my main criticism of Tudor is the rinse and repeat. Adjust size, repeat. I've got OG Pelagos (black), OG Tudor BB, BB58, 2022 Ranger. I feel a thinning of watches coming.. If I can double my money on a Sub I think I'm all in for that, will have a chat with my preferred AD re their commission rates

I prefer it without the date window, but I agree re the micro self adjusting clasp.

Yup as it stands, this new one is £3500 for less actual watch. It sits alongside the rest of the model lineup in a rather boring display, as you say, rinse and repeat, which is a shame to see. From 2012~ Tudor had some fresh new designs and engineered some great systems like the Pelagos clasp. With the boom of popularity thanks to social media mostly, everything has become diluted sadly.

Pelagos 39 is definitely interesting, but it is not something I would buy for the above reasons. They really need to up the game on styles/innovation - Seems to be heading the same direction of Rolex, reference after reference of rinse and repeat and nothing really truly new to the table. The BB Silver was one thing that was actually cool, and the FXD too I guess, but not even a year later and look at how many people are talking about them, hardly any! Seems to have gone down that boring hole for that pair too.

I 100% agree how Tudor have gone for the safe route, the boring route. You could argue the same can be said too for Omega and so on. I get on well with my AD (should do after 4 watches and 3 services from them..) and TBH I doubt there will be much of a waiting list, so the discount question is going to be pressed. I agree value wise it's lower spec than the Pelagos for only £200 ish less.

It interests me as in reality my OG Pelagos is too big and I like the Pelagos. 39mm should it have been 40mm...

BB58 is definitely on the block for me, I barely wear it and I think I last wore it in 2021.. It was my second Tudor purchase and I've still never fully understood the hype and waiting list for it. My AD offered to take it off me for more than I paid them in 2018 a few months back, should have just said yes.

I don't mind that it's not talked about, I used to prefer Tudor when they were low key etc. 2015 when I had people ask "is that a Tudor?", you knew they were semi "watch" people etc. Rolex, well it's more are you going to be robbed or is it fake.

Goodwood FOS the Rolex watches were common, I also saw quite a few OP and RM's. I was happily there with a smiley Tudor BB, my 2020 Sub was sat in a safety deposit box... The irony of that one now is I have to go to the safety deposit box to get it. At which point I can't be bothered. Sounds like another for the block.

Following the death of my brother in-law this month (was on local news :( ), I'm taking a different view on pointless possessions too. Life is there to do stuff. My M2 is viewed as pointless too tbh

It looks like the new 39 has a rapid micro-adjustment clasp similar to some Rolex clasps - Maybe just transplanted over even, they'd have done a GIF on it on the product page if it was a new mechanism so it's almost certainly a carry over from another model in the family. At least that's good and gives 5 adjustments.

No word on what the thickness or lug to lug is either and this brings me to a point of annoyance with many big name watch brands. They rarely put full specs on the websites and you have to rely on youtubers to get one and measure them before release. Why do they do this I have no idea. At 200M I suspect it will be around the 12mm mark for thickness, at 39mm case size the lug to lug should be around the BB58 length too - Let's see!

I do miss the OG Pelagos, and one of my wants was one day have a date-free version that's smaller, and this seems to be it. Just that at £3500 it's a lot for a smaller watch which doesn't bring anything technically new to the table like the Pelagos originally did.

I really like the new 39mm Pelagos. Feels like a refinement of the existing one but for the better. Be interesting to see what level of discount can be had on it, I think I'd be tempted close to 3k or under. Agree on that it's priced a bit too close to the existing 42mm.

T&T get a hands on, have to say I'm more swayed toward it after this. Looks far far nicer than the new Ranger which is very boring - Although it is expected since the OG PElagos was very military in style, exactly how a tool watch should be. Looks like they have updated the rubber strap too and it is now softer, the grooves on the underside are also revised and do not look like the digging in type of the 42mm Pelagos.

Saw that this morning, so definitely looking at it further. I have a Ranger, which I actually purchased for it's simplicity. In hindsight I'd probably have gone for something from Grand Seiko if I was buying again. Hopefully Chichester bound this weekend if they get a display model.

Agreed re the strap, hopefully they won't be so abrasive, but then the original was designed to be worn over a wet suit
