What watch do you wear?

Well I don't like silly large watches either, my wrists are just a shade under 7 inches and the largest watch I have is 44mm and I think it looks ok, I wouldn't go any bigger though. Here is a picture for reference.

I think the Magrette's case shape will make it wear a touch smaller than this more rounded shape if anything. It is very much a personal taste thing though I suppose, it also depends on the style of watch I think, I sold a 43mm dress watch not all that long ago as I thought it looked silly at that size, but pilot style or dive watches or most 'sports' style watches wear fine at larger sizes I think ..upto a point. Obviously ones of Arnie's 50mm monsters would look ridiculous on my twigs.

I wouldn't get too hung up on diameters because lug to lug width, the shape of the lug and the size of the bezel makes watches wear differently.

The Laco looks bigger on my wrist than the Hamilton even though it's shorter from lug to lug, but the Hamilton's lugs are curved and the Laco's are straight.

My wrists are 7"

Folks,

I've been looking at watches for the past couple of days. Not familiar with brands so it has taken a while to narrow down a shortlist. I've checked out Seiko, Orient and Tissot but nothing really stood out. Steinhart and Christopher Ward look really nice - both manufacturers seem to receive lots of good feedback about the quality of watches. With that in mind I've found the following:

Christopher Ward - C60 Trident 300

Christopher Ward - C3 Malvern Chronograph

Steinhart - OCEAN one Vintage Military
http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-one-Vintage-Military,909.html

With the Steinhart I would probably pick up a leather strap too.

What do you guys think? Any other brands or watches I should check out before I buy one of the above?

Love both the OVM and the new CW Trident

If it's black face you want I'd get the OVM. It wears quite big though so if you have small wrists consider that.

I'd avoid the older design of the Trident quartz - the newer model and the mechanicals are much nicer. White face Trident is my favourite, so if you like it that would be my pick.

If you go for the Trident I think I have a £50 voucher somewhere I could send your way.

Do you want a mechanical watch or a quartz? the C3 and that version of the tident are quartz. I have a mechanical trident and I've been very pleased with the build quality. I got it in one of their sales for less than this quartz.

I would also say it is always worth getting a watch on the bracelet if you think you may use one at some point. Much cheaper than buying an OEM bracelet later. Leather is easy to come by.

All of these are well made watches. You really need to figure out if you want a quartz movement or not and go from there.

Would like a recommendation (or two) please.

7 1/4 inch wrist so I can't pull off anything bigger than 40mm probably - quite conscious of it looking "too much" for my thin wrists.

Open-minded on style, although not too plain and not too "fussy/cluttered", budget £300 max, daily watch - work/dress - I'll wear it all day every day.

I would possibly consider 2nd hand.

Thanks :)

You can get 42mm on a 7.25 wrist (my wrist is under 7) but just check how it looks on the wrist first.

Nice! What model is it?

Get in. That omega is delightful. Where did you order from? What was the damage if you don't mind me asking. I would sell off a couple in order to get that one.

That's a great choice. :)

Thanks. It's this one:

http://www.omegawatches.com/baselworld-2015/en#!aquaterra-jamesbond

It can be had for £4400 but I wanted 0% finance as I only have about half up front so it cost a little over £4600 instead with 50% of it financed over 12 months.

Got some new straps, the leather ones have that aged look about them, which I think suits a tool watch nicely.

The leather ones are Saddle Vintage and Rhino.

I'll have a look at the new version. I'm out at the moment and my phone is refusing to load the website. Is it the 600 or a different model number?

The voucher would be fantastic if you could send it my way. Thank you very much!

I would like mechanical, but I was under the impression it was a bit over my budget (£300-350). To be honest I was thinking of the braclet version for that exact reason. I do want a leather strap though - should I go for the official CW one or pick up a third party strap? If the latter, do you have any recommendations for websites?
