What watch do you wear?

I've always been set on a Tag Heuer for the first high end watch I purchase but partly due to the photographs in this thread and some window shopping I'm becoming more and more swayed by the Omega Seamasters. They really are stunning.

Have Omega prices increases over past few years? I recall being able to pick up a Seamaster 3-4 years a go for 2k, 4K now? Unless I've got it wrong.

Got mine for £1,850 in 2006. They've gone up massively ever since then for various reasons.

Nice investment :D - I do really like the watch you have. However a dark blue face is what I'm currently quite fond of. But I fear it may be a fad for me, I want something timeless I'll keep forever, black or grey face would be a safer option I think.

Prices have gone up significantly across the industry over the last few years.
Lots of factors have influenced this, in Omega's case part of the increase is down to the watch quality, packing and branding improving as they are positioning their range at a higher end than previously.

Pricing of luxury watches is currently a major issue for the industry which isn't going to be an overnight fix.

This is an excellent article by Ariel Adams (owner of the ablogtowatch site) about watch pricing.

Bought my Planet Ocean in July 2015 for £2830 Now it's at £3480 (RRP £3800). I think they do like Rolex, they steadily increase prices so they give the impression that watches are a 'good investment' -- but it's all manufactured value, like diamonds.

Well, 1 month in after buying the Tudor Pelagos and I have to say that I as happy as a dog rolling in fox poo. Not only do I love it deeply on a personal level due to the looks, features and how comfortable it is to wear, but I get a fair few appreciative comments too, the only slight downside being that one or two people with no watch knowledge assumed at first glance that it was a Rolex.

The titanium bracelet is scuffing (not scratching) as expected, but doing so in a muted way that is not very noticeable unless in certain light, and preferable to the scratching of the shiny metal bracelet of my Longines Hydro.

Such a fantastic piece to wear, and imo great value (in comparative watch terms) vs any comparably specced watch.

Buyers remorse = 0. :)

I'm still wearing my 21st birthday present.

Glad I bought mine a while back for under list

You will probably find one in HK given the number of shops. The problem is finding it without a lot of calls. There are 40 auto dealers there just for starters lol. Maybe Chrono24. The other problem is exchange rate and card costs will add up seriously.

You know hacket watches have one now right?

Yeah my timing has been terrible as I should have secured it before the 10% increase. Hackett has one but it's 7.5k.. There's quite a few in HK on Chrono24, I'm there for a few days so I'll have a look about as they seem quite well priced too!

Just sold mine on Gumtree as I have way too many watches. It's a very nice looking everyday watch IMO.

Cheers - I hadn't worn a watch for about 10 years, so getting used to wearing one again. Will likely be a slippery slope though, as already thinking about buying another watch or two in the future :)

Just got my first Automatic Watch delivered and I'm loving it, I can't stop looking at the movement.

It's the Tissot Visodate, I've read a fair few posts about this piece in this thread and various other forums which helped my decision in choosing it over the Sekio Cocktail Time.

I am happy with it I just think the strap would look better just plain leather rather than the square pattern

I think my collection is complete for now :D.

Seiko SKX009 (£185, £245 with mods) - I'll be honest, I bought this simply because people raved on about it. I didn't really love it, I just thought it was a nice watch. Now, with two years of ownership and some simple mods (Super Jubilee bracelet, Ceramic burgundy bezel) its my mainstay, my rock and the watch I wear the most. Really a fantastic watch for the money, but you knew that already.

Seiko SARB017 (£278) - I had a Cocktail Time; while it was beautiful I never found the occasion to wear it. Its almost too dressy for my taste. I saw the Alpinist and fell in love with the dial and also the size; it shouts in its subtlety. I was preparing for the strap to be absolute rubbish, but it is not too bad. Very stiff.

Bulova 96B229 (£99, £117 with mods) - I never really was fond of Quartz watches, I mean, Automatic's was always the reason I got into watches. But, for £99, with a beautiful sweeping hand, I took the plunge. It's become my casual watch, something I wear to a friends house or when I'm just relaxing. For the price, I think its amazing; if it was 40mm or even 38mm - I would pay double for it. 42mm I think is a bit too big. Still, amazing value for money. I had it originally on a leather strap but it was a mis-match, too formal a strap for a casual watch. Now, on a perlon strap its perfect (in my opinion) and extremely comfortable.

So there we go, if your looking for affordable watches, I can definitely recommend the above. SKX for the diver, Alpinist for the dressy different number and finally the Bulova for a casual mainstay.

I'll get the Seamaster one day; but I'm in no hurry whatsoever.
