Originally "Emo" refers to the sub genre of hardcore/punk/scremo in music. With different styles of music developing we are constantly looking for new names to describe these styles. Emo is one of them, and to be honest its generally quite awful teen angst BS with **** poor vocals and guitars that grate on you, although "Thrice", "Hopesfall" and "Alexisonfire" aren't bad.
Unfortunately it has also become a "categorising" system for kids/students to undermine different people in a world where image has become more important than personality. The terms "Goth", "Punk", "Emo", "Chav", "Scene-kid", etc are often used, in a derogatory sense, to describe someone who is different to themself and the group of "mates" they hang around with.
I am REALLY bored of the labelling
