whats your job ?

Interesting read, a lot of clever people in here, I'm too ashamed to say mine :o, fairly menial job though, not really capable of much more than that tbh.

We all start somewhere....there is no job that you should be ashamed of and I worked in a butter factory once just puting a cup of salt into butter blocks for 12 hours a day.....how's that for a crappy job.

I have a bunch of qualifications in related fields ...and I am working on my PhD at the moment (interdisciplinary). I haven't been at this full-time for that long although I have been studying various subject matter for years.

What do you do?

Just wrapping up an MA in literature (specialising in modernism and postmodernism) and going on to do a PhD. Although at the moment I am having finish-line speed wobbles and I'm actually considering deferring a year and just going to teach in Asia... restless.

Indeed!.

Reminds me of my brother.

His first job was quality control in a bottle-top factory, watching them go past & picking out defective ones.

The funny thing was, he was in the last year of his PHD in theoretical physics with applied mathematics at the time (summer job). :D

It's best not to judge somebody by the job they do.

Exactly. I do Home shopping deliveries besides uni, it's a very tedious and exhausting sometimes. However, it pays, lots of overtime over the summer, and I get to listen to the radio at least and spend most of the day under my own direction.

Sadly too many of the great British people believe any form of work is below them.

Business Analyst/Information Architect/Solutions designer/Technical Project Manager/Scrum Master

I have been called all of the above and lines are blurred, depending on who's paying me at the time.

I was tempted to apply for their graduate scheme, but decided not to as I'm not actually a graduate, and I don't think my experience with Cisco would be enough for me to qualify.

Shame though, loved their offices when we visited a few months ago.

Oh, and lolgroen

Bedfont Lakes?

Offices are lush albeit a bitch of a commute for me - thank god for their very relaxed WFH policy :D

Kitchen porter/ housekeeper in a hotel- there you go! lowest of the low! lol

I spend my time running around tidying up after people, also with the place being family run they are minimum wage jobs and no set breaks, time off or anything. Basically the attitude is you're here to work and do whatever is needed to keep the place going.
A thank you from the boss would be nice (fat chance), ah well ,at least the tips are good!

I am an Avaya IP Office PABX engineer - just had a fun week completing an install in Erbil, Iraq (located in the Kurdistan region).

Was well hot topping out at 46c, but thankfully there is a lot of air conditioning out there and even though it was hot it was nowhere near as uncomfortable as it is over here due to the humidity.
