When are you going fully electric?

I put a sticker one on mine, almost tripped me up when I hit some road debris and had to get it resprayed on insurance. Lucky I kept the original.

I have an I-Pace, I am in no way obsessed with efficiency. What I will do though is correct misconceptions such as weight has no impact on EV efficiency.
It doesn’t on a motorway. Literally tyre drag is nothing versus aero. Going 1mph more or rain makes more difference and we haven’t even got into battery temps or edu oil

Ps the obsession wasn’t aimed at you.

just what everyone was thinking - bik needs to be addressed ... leasing companies building missing dealer support infrastructure

Lol whut? Missing dealer support, from who BYD? Certainly none of the other incumbents are missing the dealer/service network needed. Perhaps they are missing the technical expertise for the products they are selling, that is a training issue not a dealer/service network issue though.

just what everyone was thinking

No, I don't think they were. Also you spend a lot of time talking about BEVs while having zero experience of them. Put your money where you mouth is, and go buy one.

I can't see where any funds come from to support discounts for people to by new cars when there is an apparent £22bn hole in the public finances which forces retrograde steps on spending on important things like social care or funding a welfare payment to 3+ child families. It's not tenable.

Yes demand is not strong enough but If I was the government I'd be seeing how this year plays out before making any assessment. It's the first six months of the ZEV Mandate and it was always going to be tough. I reckon most OEMs will find a way of avoiding the £15k pu fine this year but next years target is 28% which is almost double the current sales rate. Competition will drive down pricing and Used EV are close to parity with Used ICE. I suspect what we will see is a restriction on ICE volumes from quite a few OEMs next year and that might lead to higher pricing for those vehicles hence bringing new EV / ICE closer to parity.

If I was to do anything I'd look at reducing the fine for non-compliance to a more sensible level and invest the proceeds back into the infrastructure. Car companies are still profitable and they can be squeezed a bit more.

Has anyone had experience of renting a EV when on holiday as kind of a taster as to what an electric car could be like to live with. On one hand I’d like to sample it on the other hand I don’t want to waste time if the charging is going to be tough to organise.

We going to the south of France near Cannes. There is no charger as far as we know in the resort we are staying at but around the corner there are a pair of WiiiZ 22kw type 2 chargers. If charged up overnight we would probably be ok for a couple of days travelling around. Another concern is returning the car to the car hire place at the airport after 35km on the last day if it needs to be full on return - there are no straightforward fast chargers near the airport. The car offered is an e2008 or equivalent, who knows what cables etc it will come with.

See the AUDI A6 has popped up today, Sportback and Avant flavour on PPE. Has the same fat metal waist most BEVs trying to be saloons have, ie i4 etc. Nose very Korean looking in my view and also a RWD Audi on the A6 rather than S6.

Almost looks like a Posh OG Ioniq.

Why would it need to be full? And how would that ever be possible, ever. They'll just charge you per kWh or per %.

e2008 normally comes with a type 2 which is what you'd need to the local AC charger you mentioned.

Have you planned the route in ABRP or had a look on ZAPMAP for chargers?

I really like it, prob the better looking premium offering, nicer than the EQE & i5.

Not a bad looking car, a bit bland and probably available in 9 different shades of grey but that’s typical Audi and will tick the boxes for their usual target customers. The new Q6 also looks really good, a proper step over the Q4 and makes the Q8 look obsolete.

The charge ports is in the ‘correct’ location also :p

The estate is nicer than the saloon but I expect Mrs Sk8 would veto it on the basis it’s an old man’s car. Especially given it’s an Audi and basically comes in various shades of black, white or grey.

She wouldn’t veto the Q6 or the Macan though :p
