When are you going fully electric?

Buzz is cool, suv is not cool.
agree , first ev I can imagine being a future collectible with the nostalgia inherited from the original. just the price to get over, as commented,
wonder what other vehicles could be re-interpreted (not sure mini ultimately succeeded)
Even the concept of an MPV could resurge .. if we have level 4 autonomy would that allow rotating the drivers seat to face passengers, fsamily flexibility of an espace or 506 is impressive.

Is there a tariff available now where the peak rate is no higher than the price cap rate on a conventional tariff?
There are no fixed energy tariffs that are no higher than the price cap.
Just like there are no fixed rate Mortgages at the base rate .

Which tariff is this (peak/off peak rates)? Surely your peak rate must be huge to get such a low off peak rate if you've renewed recently?

Anyway, I really liked the electric Mini and would probably have one over an M140i regardless of the running cost benefit. It's just so nice around town. Though it's quite a downgrade in performance!
Live in Plymouth and want a car with a 100mile range? You won’t ever be able to leave

Hahahaha, I’ve heard it all now. The Tesla Roadster is the first EV collectible.

Guys it’s just a van on MEB. Nothing like the concept promise.

If the Roadster ever releases - it’s already 2 years late. Getting to be like Tesla FSD - it’s coming ‘next year‘ :D

Also- the pre-order people have paid in full for it … since 2017. The Tesla 2017 share price Vs now on that cost is nearly $5m. So if it does arrive it’s one expensive car !

Okay, I was talking about the original one…

I think you missed the point - he said it was a myth that tariffs with a low off peak rate had an expensive peak rate, whereas from what I can see most of them have a peak rate thats higher than you'd pay if you were on a price cap tariff. Obviously if you signed up months ago it's different, but this is about now and what happens when the cheaper plans expire.

Thought you might be.
That was just a rebadged Elise with an electric motor swap for the ICE.

Sort of but not really. Yes it was based on the Elise but they ended up changing nearly all of it, only about 7% of the parts are actually common between the two.

The prices have rocketed in the last few years and they are now worth far more than they were new (£87k) if they are in reasonable condition.
A mint 2008 model with 1k on the clock one sold for $250k a few months ago. Its also my view that the original Tesla Roaster is the first truly collectable EV that is 'obtainable'.

I suppose you could argue the GM EV1 is the first collectable EV but I think there are only a 30 or 40 in existence, only one is complete but I don't think it works. They are all in proper museums these days so its not like you could get one even if you wanted it. The rest were crushed by GM for reasons.

Yep - this is mostly the case.
e.g. The Octopus gas price when I joined was 2p kWh more than anywhere else at the time, so we stuck with Scottish Power. The on-peak electric rate was also 5p kWh higher than the variable at the time too.

EDF also did an EV tariff where the on-peak electric and gas price was LOL, no thanks

No you didn’t, too quick to jump as usual.

I’m more than familiar, just countering jpaul claim and the market has decided if you look at the prices. Really we could go back to the Sinclair C5

Of course it was actually a longer wheelbase aswell but that doesn’t fit the narrative you are concocting. ;) it’s okay to recognise you made an error

Using now is not really a reflection of normal so not sure where you are taking us. Pretty much no one is taking on new customers anyway.

Excellent, measured and fact based post. Thank you.

The whole point came about because he said he'd be able to charge for £5 a week for usage which used to cost him £80 a week in petrol. Which surely won't be possible for very long as all of the cheap deals will eventually expire?

Octopus Go is currently 40p/7.5p and 37p/day in my area so it does still exist but they are not as good as they used to be. That said it was a couple of weeks ago where it was 35p/7.5p but electricity prices are still rising.

There is certainly a break even point where going on one of these tariffs is worth it but it really depends on how many miles you do and how consumption much you have on the 'day rate'.

I'm still locked in at 20p so its just not worth it for me at the moment.
