Does that motherboard have Wifi too ... ? Nope so need to add Wifi card too.

Agreed. I definitely wouldn't recommend this seriously for someone that wants to be on a PC, just was curious to see if prices dropped enough to beat the console, and they have. For PC gamers planning for upgrades is absolutely important for maximising value, which is one of its (many) advantages vs a closed system like a console (but could also apply to laptops etc.)I agree with you that you can build something console beating for 600, I don't suggest anyone to do that. Not because it won't be a great experience, but because sometimes spending more money saves you money. Spending 1k instead means you not only beat the PS5 comfortably, it means you beat the PS5 pro and probably the PS6 as well with just a GPU upgrade, since you can keep the rest of your PC. That was always my go to. When the ps4 came out, I just upgraded the GPU on my 2008 PS3 beating PC (got a 7870xt) and there you go, cheaper than a ps4
If you're serious about blu-ray (for media) then you aren't using the PS5 either as it has subpar quality, so that point is moot because otherwise games for PCs aren't sold on disc anymore. As for cables & controller, there's £50 left and you can fit that it. Can probably add a mobo with wi-fi as well, or just buy a dongle, I tested a £10 TP-link one which worked fine wayback when. I'm not a wi-fi pleb so you'll have to search for that yourself.Missing 4k bluray drive, HDMI cable and controllers (not some cheap knock off ones)...

Windows is free now, officially. And an OS
I think it is a bit more than that. As i wrote earlier, a Plagues Tale Requiem on Series X at 1440p (upscaled to 4k) ran horribly (30fps sometimes with dips below). A 3070 can manage an average of over 60fps at that 1440p native resolution. It could be that the CPU in the console was a bottleneck too though. However, that is quite a stark difference (that they couldn't get the Series X above 30fps at 1440p).
Yeah this is it for me. Like we can call such a PC a "PS5 challenger" or something but "beater" sounds like a stretch.I watched some DF comparisons and it really comes down to the specific games. The PS5 sometimes is equal / faster than a 2080, which means it's spot on to the 6700xt, sometimes its only matching a 2060 super. Maybe it is indeed the CPU that bottlenecks it in those cases, but what can you do about it.

You sure? Cause I remember a digital foundry video where a 2060 super was beating the ps5. It was from a couple of years ago
I think it looks perfectly playable now. I guess it also shows what can be done of devs spend a bit more time tweaking things. OK so you sacrifice some stuff but when you're mid game you don't spend long staring at textures or counting rats.
Its hardware that came out in 2020 and only now are we seeing new gpus priced anywhere near it.Yes, but they have apparently dropped the resolution to 1080p and cut the frame rate of animations for some objects (like rats).
The fact remains is that the console hardware, even though it was a console with no Windows OS overhead etc struggled at 1440p and could only do 30fps, which is poor by today's standards of PC hardware.
Uhm, yeah but the PS5 didn't really cost 500 back in 2020 either. In fact - especially in EU, youd be lucky to find it available at all, and if you did youd be looking at 700 to 800 euros. My brother - who in fact had let's say "connections" managed to get this hands on it for 700 in late 2021.Its hardware that came out in 2020 and only now are we seeing new gpus priced anywhere near it.
Which tells you a lot about the average consumer. Streaming gives you horrible banding, especially on dark scenes and the sound is obviously worse. Sony has a better service at up to 100Mps but 4K disc is still the best quality. I think this applies to console Vs GPU, a console can be good but the higher end dGPU will always be better, and so it should be.Yes it will sadly as streaming is becoming the preferred way to watch movies and the movie collectors are the ones buying media and it will end up like Laserdisc did the movie nerds buying them (I was one of them with LD).
Easier and cheaper wins at the end of the day. Plus I can't put the disc in with my remote.Which tells you a lot about the average consumer. Don't get me wrong I stream TV and stuff you can't get in physical but it's hard to beat a top film on 4K blu-ray, HDR, OLED and a good sound system. Love a good monster movie to get the sub moving!Easier and cheaper wins at the end of the day. Plus I can't put the disc in with my remote.
That said I do still prefer my games on disc, or at least the option, mostly for access to the second hand market.

Did you really just sum up PC gaming as wanting to mess about in menus? That's a really **** poor argument and not the own you think it is.Having options isn't really a big pro for me . I want my game to just run at its best without me touching a menu. I want to click start>new game and then know it's running best for hardware provided.
I appreciate it's nice to have options but that's more for people like yourself who I assume with a name of Bencher likes tweaking.
A person has a console to play games. Not to mess about in menus.

Infact the whole PC vs console debate is idiotic, if you care about games you get the platform those games are on, be it PC or console or whatever.
Probably will want to make a discount a bit further down the road which will seem bigger this way )Any reason why the 4070 base price jumped £20 today? I'm not paying more and it's just putting off the inevitable
