When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

Need to get 1440p 60hz card for my daughters pc, whats best value card for that resolution at the moment ..... 6700xt ?

But late but yes perfect, 6700xt has always been better value than its Nvidia counterpart, with more VRAM.

Particularly at 60fps it'll be perfect for 1440p you'll be able to whack the settings right up on most titles as well.

It's only when you want to push out more frames, consistently, you would look to go higher tier GPU.

Thanks for that. Yeah its only 60hz so think it will do, she is only 7 so will start of with playing easy going games like minecraft and she loves roblox. Looking to buy gpu for my new build as well and also got new 240hz 1440p monitor, think will go with 7900xt as seems best bang for buck at the moment.

Yup 7900xt would be what I would get as well, but pricing Vs how badly (or not as the case) I need to upgrade can't justify it at the moment.

Agree, prices are not ideal at the moment. To be honest I don't see them getting any better any time soon. Will just bite the bullet and will keep the card for couple of gens. Already spent money on new am5 platform (7800x3d) so might as well just spend a bit more. Don't drink or smoke so might as well spend money on something.

When will prices go down? I assume it will happen when we have real competition. The truth is that TSMC is increasing the prices of its services, and it's becoming harder to migrate to lower manufacturing processes. However, that is not as expensive as the price hikes from Nvidia and AMD. Nvidia and AMD enjoy a duopoly and have no intention of competing against each other. Everything falls on Intel, which is cunning enough and has sufficient resources to disrupt that duopoly. However, they are currently facing significant problems in both CPU and GPU fields. They are lost, fragmented, and it will be difficult for them to compete on both fronts. While we wait for Intel to get back on track, we will continue to see price increases and minimal advancements from generation to generation.

I'm really starting to think that the answer to "when will prices come down" is "never".

Despite all the complaints, NVIDIA has shown absolutely no sign of shifting its position. As of yesterday, NVIDIA became one of the world's very few trillion-dollar companies. They have absolutely no reason to reduce their prices and every reason to maintain them. I am afraid that the upgrade market is probably, largely dead from now on. Let's all hope I am wrong.

You say that, and although I'm in no way a financial expert, I'm inclined to agree with what KompuKare said in the The Financial Results Thread. That it seems like there's a lot of speculation going on so i wouldn't be shocked if the bubble bursts in the not to distant future.

I'll be honest IDK what the effect of something like that would be on the prices Nvidia charge, i assume they'd be slashed but could the fallout be even worse than that?

on a more positive note..... 6800XT from £519

That's very nearly enough to make me budge, but ideally I'm looking for something with a bit more of an uplift

The bubble is going to eventually burst, that's not really up for debate but the hard part to figure out is when.

There's a similar saying for recessions.

I expect the next round of consoles to be a major shock to consumer GPU prices. The GPU in the PS5, for example, may be much the same as a 5700 XT but once you account for PC overhead and lack of optimisation you’re looking at a RTX 3070 or RX 6800. Basically a high-end GPU on launch. Nvidia simply aren’t going to be able to charge £1k for a GPU with the performance of a £500 console. But that’s going to be 2027 or 2028.

Console has always been the cheaper option though and I don't agree with the view that one supplants the other directly. For example, if you could take say a 4080 and price it at £200 would that seriously harm console sales? I doubt it.

If I'm interested in the latest versions of games like CoD, GoW, Spider-man, GTA etc then does having a cheap good gaming PC mean I'm going to wait for some crappy port to eventually come out years down the road on PC? Hell no!

Your average punter doesn't need a 4080, probably doesn't even need a 3080 either and they'll be how cheap used once 5xxx whatever comes out? I'm not saying it's a good situation, I just don't think it's a choice between the latest GPU or a console.

I really don't understand NVIDIA's policy. Whether they want to be the Apple of the PC world, or whether they want to crush the scalpers, I don't know. Perhaps these prices are to compensate for anticipated low PC sales, or maybe they're so blind they thought we would believe their hype, while they cheapened down the product?? But whatever their theories are, the only thing I do know is they are single-handedly destroying the upgrade market and perhaps even PC-gaming itself. The very least they are doing is growing hatred for the company, if not the products. Sooner or later something is going to snap, and it's no more than a few years away.
Reminds me of Voodoo.

You say that but based on a recent conversations with a certain forum member it seems some people disagree that it's a bubble or simply down to stock market speculation.

That one gets my vote, Jensen is on record as saying that he thinks the average selling price of a graphics card should be equivalent to the price of a console.
