When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

A part of the problem that really annoyed me is that some genuine long term forum members couldn't get the card they wanted so they bought something like a 3060 Ti to use temporary. They an opportunity for a 3070 came up so they bought it and sold the 3060 Ti. Then the actual card they wanted
originally became available so they bought that and sold the 3070.

That's makes the shortage worse and is unfair to other gamers. Their response "it's my money so I can do what I like"

Sorry but I beg to differ, how is that making the shortage worse and unfair to other gamers when its possible the cards sold went to gamers ?
I wanted a 6900xt to go with my AMD build but I couldnt get one so I went 5700xt > 3060ti FE > 3070 > 3080 FE > 6900xt. 3 of those cards were sold to "gamers". The 3080FE I cashed in at the high price to get the 6900xt. I make no bones about that.
It took some doing but I put the effort in and also gave me a chance to try different cards to see which one I liked.

None of these cards I got from OCUK apart from the 5700xt.

Your post just smacks more of boo hoo poor me I couldnt get what I wanted yet its everyone else fault. Plenty of other people on here including long term forum members went through this type of process its widely talked about there were even threads about it.

can see each FE models being £100 more than last gen with all the factors, shortage, war, oil price etc, crikey list is endless for reasons for the increases, even though the market is smaller this time, and earlier believed it be a small increase, its looking more like a chunky increase across the board, with higher rises on the high end models

Hah, my salary is not increasing to they can stick their price increases where they well deserve.

There is inflation, almost everything has gone up in price. I definitelty cannot see 4 Series cards dropping in price.
4 Series cards will be expensive cards and will reflect inflation and product price rises. They will be scalped badly. I would'nt wait if I could get a 3 Series card within my budjet as I don't think they will be easy to purchase at msrp soon after release.

Supply and demand seems to be the largest price factor currently 3xxx cards have plenty of supply now but demand has fallen off a cliff and prices reflect that I've seen 3080 AIB cards come down from £1000+ to £950+, £850 and currently £750 thats only a hundred more than FE cards and those havn't been sighted in the wild for a long time now.

I would have thought so, because by selling more expensive cards, they could sell less cards to make a good profit as there might be less demand.

My 3080 is still over 30% more on OCUK today than 2020 price though? Still some drops to come surely.

Spot on. Whilst it was done, like you say it exacerbated the issue and that was only the known folk who admitted it. There would have been tenfold more doing it but never shared it. Even if you analyse OcUK as a subset of data, you can tell via just the MM the randoms popped up selling cards for reasons not like it matters right now but they all add up to why there was a frenzy. As for the scalpers.. well I cant explain why anyone would risk it for no warranty and the fact your lining some scumbags pocket in the process.

I wouldn't personally buy one this late unless its a very good deal from the second hand market or some silly rare promo deal. We are talking like 40-45ish% of the current cheapest retail price for used and around 60-70% for new retail part, not gonna happen I feel :). Considering the rumours, even with a ton of salt added, I think the current gen of GPUs will look rather slow compared to the next gen. Competition will be fierce which will cause both brands to push performance to get an edge. At least that's the theory I'm currently sticking to.
so the one BIG unknown is how competition in next gen will play out on price vs. performance. AMD have had a real pricing problem for a while now, but they 'could' do something with chiplets and that imho has Nvidia worried because to compete they would have to match a more expensive monolithic die.

I can't bring myself to click the buy button on a 3080, despite wanting one for the last couple of years.
In a few months there will be threads about how people have sold their 3000 series for the 4000 series. You may as well try and hang out for the 4000 series now, although I suspect that there will be shortage of cards when they are first released and those with FOMO will buy from scalpers again

If it's anything like last time it will take hours or days just to be able to get an order in because all the sites crash and can't handle the traffic.

and we start the vicious circle all again, scalpers will only scalp if theres a market for them to make money, and those with FOMO will drive the majority, that, and as we learnt theres a shed load of gamers with FOMO. obviously then theres the other grouping's but FOMO tends to be the largest section.

There's an argument which says buy now if you need one as after the next series comes out there won't be new 'old' cards and generally in those cases the legacy prices stay high. If the same thing happens again with new cards - paper launches, no stock for about 18 months - you'll be driven crazy again.

Different market conditions this time around.

Imho what will happen is there will be the usual surge but supply will recover quickly as the market for over priced GPUs runs out due to other economic pressures i.e. they will run out of customers much quicker than last time due to price. Then we will see new sku's come in to try and fill that void like say a 4080Ti using the AD102 die or a refresh with faster memory.

Scalper telegram and discord channels are once again salavating at the prospect of screwing over `gamers`

I concur, already starting to see miners offloading cards and most "normal" wage people I know are feeling the pinch already. I'm really interested this time to see whose thoughts are closest to the reality.

I think they could get badly burnt if they aren't careful, as BigBANGtheory mentions, conditions are very different this time. A lot of conditions all coming together in Q3/Q4 working against high pricing.
