Where is the first floor?

Also ground floor is almost never at ground level because that woulkd be a terrible building design prone to flooding and dampness. You almost always go up a few steps to reach the ground/first floor and under the ground/first floor is a crawl space (or basement).

You never want the bottom of your front door level with the ground, water could flow straight in. In my house I have about 4 regular steps at the front and 7 at the back to reach my first floor. the ground level is an unlivable crawl space. Same with my parent's house in scotland, about 3 steps at the front of the house and 5 at the back, the actual ground level is a sandy tar pit covered in nails, spiders and monsters.

You start at 0. Up 1 is 1, down one is -1. It doesn't get more logical then that.

Starting at 1 doesn't make any sense at all. In order to have 1 you have to have gained something. That's why when you are born, you aren't 1 years old immediately.

You're immediately in your first year though. Like you're immediately on the 1st of the building's floors.

If you live in a bungalow and fall out of bed.....where do you land? THE FLOOR

You don't have to live in a bungalow to hit the floor when you fall out of bed :/

That's 3.

But your turn now answering my logic?

You hit the floor, AKA the ground. People don't refer to it as the "first floor" because it's the only floor, same goes for bungalows.

The floor is already there.

But I had no apples to begin with, I have no apples, I am still on the same level in the Y axis. I have not gone up anywhere. When I have gained an Apple, I have 1 Apple.

I don't walk around with an Apple constantly.

I like how those arguing that the ground floor is the first floor are arguing against every lift in every building in the UK ever.

Also, zero is not the same as null.

You have no apples, you walk into a building and are given an apple so now you have 1 apple. You walk up 1 flight of stairs and someone gives you an apple you now have 2 apples, 1 for each floor you visited.

mmmm yes and no

wrong instance though

0 when counting items means you have no items

Again your getting mixed up, we count buildings in terms of storey's and indeed a home with a GF + FF would be classed as a two storey dwelling. However the naming convention of labeling levels (in the UK anyway) is the same way we count vertical transition or steps. IE you go up 1 level and reach level 1. Your first step is just that and when completed you move onto your second, from standing you wouldn't throw your left leg forward and claim it was your second step.

Where the hell do you live ?

Indeed he does. One for the Ground floor, and one for the First floor.

Thats a good analogy.

When counting steps as you walk up the you go up the first step and start counting from 1. You don't stand at the base of the steps, take the first step up and go "2...".

Here's a good one

When playing a computer game, what level do you start at?

1

when you have gained a level, you are at 2

But how many levels have you completed?

In the UK, we counts "floors above ground".

When you are on the ground floor, you are 0 levels above ground. Hence "0" or "G"
Go up a flight of stairs and you are 1 floor above ground. Hence "1"

Also, zero is not the same as null.

Lift manufactures in the UK cater to the UK population and expectations, they don't choose a system that is the most logical so is entirely irrelevant.

We all know in the UK ground floor is the zeroth floor, and the next floor up is the first. This thread is about discussing whether that is as logical as other international systems that start the first floor of a building at 1 and the second floor as 2 etc..

Zero is null in this case. If someone is 0cm high then they do not exist and there is no matter. If someone weighs 0kg then they have no matter and dont exist. If a house is zero meters high then it has no matter and doesn't exist
