of course I thought of that, for starters you said you tell any prospective partners you are never going to get married, maybe you should go look up the definition of prospective partners and realise I presumed you are telling them this before you even have the 'do you want to get married in the future conversation', you never said you had agreed with your gf you was never going to marry, you said you told her/them, which surprisingly enough for you maybe, would gut a lot of women as 90% of women dream of getting married from a young age and is something they expect and see as a normal part of life, crazy? maybe, but right more often than not
I never did, but the way you explained yourself made it seem to anyone reading it that you are laying down laws without having a discussion about it, and that would make you selfish, which is why i replied what i did yesterday

People who wouldn't allow them to separate. Which is the main issue of the sidetrack about the nature of marriage.
Anyone who thinks marriage must be for life will have to use force to make it so in some cases, because some people will want to stop being married. You can evade that ugly point, but it won't go away.
Who has said they wouldn't allow a married couple to separate?
By default, everyone who has said that marriage is for life. I did ask if anyone would allow married couples to seperate, but no-one answered.

If so, what do you think about adultery? It's either that or both parties must remain celibate until one of them dies.
For example...Bob and Sue get married at 18. By 25, they can't stand the sight of each other and separate. But, under the proposed system, they are required to remain married to each other until one of them dies. So if they have sex with anyone else, it's adultery.
If you would allow adultery (and bear in mind that many people think it should be punished by torture and/or death), what would you do about the legal issues?
For example...Five years later, Bob and Sue are with other people. They haven't even spoken to each other for years now. They're both with their new partners for a long time, and they both have children with them. Then, at 55, Bob dies of a heart attack. So everything he owns goes to his widow...Sue, the woman he last saw 30 years ago.

Clearly that's not what people are saying. It is said that a dog is for life (not just for Christmas
), but nobody would force someone to keep a dog if they decided they do not want it. Just because people state that when you get married your intention should be for it to last a life time it does not mean that we want to force warring parties to stay together.Of course, nobody is suggesting otherwise.

The Doris has been planning her wedding since about 4 years old so you best make it somewhere special & memorable. Also do it when you are alone so she is not forced into an answer.
I'd suggest somewhere special to you both like the first restaurant you took her, If that is to cliche then somewhere Unique like the Grand Canyon/Falls/Eiffle, You get the picture.
