Which car would you chose?

I'm open to other suggestions but I wouldn't have thought there is anything I've not already considered and discounted :)

The angle I'm coming from on this is that; You said you'd probably keep the Mondy. So...is space such an issue? If not then why not something like a smart, pretty coupé? Such as a TT or something?

Space isn't an issue at all - it just happens that virtually every car I really properly like the look of etc is a saloon. I don't NEED a saloon - I just don't desire a Coupe.

Your family may well be a combination of lucky and very kind to their cars :p

I know a few Impreza about at the moment two of which are on their second and one on their fourth engine. Subaru are also 3rd from bottom in the WhatCar reliability index for cars from 93-Present, despite the non-Impreza's doing averagely and better!

Fair enough, none of the guys I know who've had standard engines have had problems.

Oh, I guess I should also say I want something newer than my Mondeo, which is V reg.
Fox worrying about the age of his car?
............its the apocolypse isnt it? :(

I would go for the Impreza if you can sacrifice the comforts of the BMW/Mondeo without a second thought. The performance of the Impreza would be great really with the 4wd. Though comforts dont really bother me so much as i found a Focus RS still nice and comfy.

Then 2nd it would be the BMW, especially if you feel that you cannot do without some of the finer comforts that the BMW has to offer. One thing though that does worry me is that before i remember you said that they didnt feel that quick, well if performance is what your after then you want something that feels quick?

You have to remember with both of those choices the drivers still both do not have the best image on the road. Though i dont care about driver image really when driving a car, but it may still effect you.

Now i know it isnt in your list but how about an Integra? Little smaller to be granted though but its more what i would pick for that budget and still have 4 seats. (Just)

this puts me off the ST200, and the ST220...

"I still had over a year warranty left, and the car was £25000 new. Wetting myself with pleasure I traded in my knackered ST200 with 60,000 miles shagged alloys and squeaks and rattles a plenty."

lol traded it in for an ST220...why he doesnt expect rattles and squeks at 60k in another "top of the range ford" im not sure:)

Its hard for me to understand where your getting all this money from to get a car like this, so id need to know your financial sitchuation before i were to comment on cars. Id go for the boring and unrelated option of getting a morgage and moving out of home.
Didnt you know? Fox is a crystel meth dealer.

Personally i think you're utterly insane to even consider the BMW in your current situation (living at home, as a uni student). The Impreza is just not a good idea though :p Keep your 'deo and move out ;) (i know, you don't like that answer. but it IS a good one.).

Fox, what about a Vectra 3.2 GSi?

At the prices they go for, that's a whole lotta car for the money.

I seem to recall that you ain't a Vauxhall fan though, so nae bother.

Fair enough, in which case just get the e39 :p

Really though, are you really going to spend ~£5k on what is essentially the same car as what you have already? Albeit with a few tweeks and some more ponies.

And the ST220, is the [/i]same amount of money[/i] as the e39. If it were cheaper than it might be a harder choice IMO but otherwise it doens't really stand up.

Take out an ST220, but when you do borrow your Dad's 530d - that way you'll have a better comparison.

It's a rubbish answer and you know it - there is a time and a place for moving out and it's not yet :)

I fail to see how that's relevant or any of your business?

Some students work damn ouside of Uni time to earn some cash. Others, such as myself, take a year out to work (usually as part of their degree program) and get some cash this way.

If it matters my net spend on car purchases (minus sales) since I've been at Uni is around £8k. Is that a problem as well?
