5.7 manual Cheverolet Corvette or 5.7 manual Vauxhall Monaro.

Typically £15k each but with the Monaro you'd buy a 40,000 mile 05/05 plate one. With the corvette you'd still be talking 40,000 miles but it's be a 1998 one(a C4/C5??).

What makes a Corvette so much better? Same Engine essentially and looks wise lets assume they are equal. A vette looks more 'intense' and fun whereas a Monaro looks like a big saloon car.

Why such a difference? I get a vette is a £60k car new and a Monaro is a £25k car new but why is the resale so much higher on the Monaro?

Err the resale isnt so much higher on the Monaro at all? The fact its 7 years newer than the Corvette kinda shows that the resale is considerably worse?

They are totally different cars, just because they share the same engine doesn't mean they are the same thing. Thats like saying a Morgan Aero8 is the same as a BMW 740i because both are RWD and both use BMW's 4.4 V8

I doubt they drive the same matey :)

Looks will indeed add a figure onto the overall price as will the badge, however you can't get away from the fact one still looks amazing and the other doesn't really look that special.

I would imagine they don't drive similarily at all

I would have thought similar but i seem to remember clarkson loving the hoolign nature of the monaro and although slightly more focused (noticible by someone who isnt a race driver?) the performance from the engine would be similar as 0-60 in 6.5 and under for the monaro and 4.7 for the Vette. The monaro 0-60 is hard to gather as some places reckon 6 seconds is too long for the monaro as it feels quicker.

I get that the vette is more refined but howso?

on parkers the Monaro is 5.2 - 6s depending on the age. Vette was a C5.

What? You think 0-60 in 4.7 and 0-60 in 6 seconds is similar?!

0-60 in 6 seconds is quick normal saloon land and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds is supercar territory, a Ferrari F355 is slower!

They are completely different cars which happen to share a similar engine. Thats all there is to it.

Having never had a 6s 0-60 car i can only imagine and 1s isn't that impressive. certainly not £20k impressive. lol.

I was just wondering what makes a Vette so special bar the badge.

ok, so its marginally quicker to 60 but how does it compare handling wise and reliability wise?

You dont seem to get it, 1.5 second's is absolutely huge

What next, you'll suggest a Golf diesel doing 0-60 in 8 seconds is almost as quick as a Monaro?
