Which is worth it more?

That a Corvette and a Monaro are two different cars.

I'm not going to disagree. But they are certainly more similar than a Aero 8 Morgan and a 7 series BMW, or Monaro and an AM Vantage.

What parts does an M5 share with a Monaro then? Other than non whatsoever not even the wiper blades?

I didn't say that they did?

The parts commonality between a 7 and an Aero 8 is restricted to... the engine.

Oh wait, just like the Monaro v the Corvette.

I didn't say that they did?

No, but somebody else did in this increasingly more daft thread.

* Both have the same engine.
* Both are front engined, rear wheel drive using the same components (at a guess)
* Both will share a lot of the same parts
* One carries less weight, is faster and looks more sporty
* One carries more weight, is slower, has 4 seats and looks more sedate

There, DONE.

Just the engine IIRC. The Monaro was designed and engineered almost exclusively by Holden in Australia. They simply used a crated LS1 engine for it.

NSX is basically just a MR2 with more cylinders.

Same car pretty much.

M5 - superlightweight pedigree.... WTF

Well I have an NSX. Its aluminium and has 3 cylinders per bank....

Captain WTF will hunt this thread down and kill it!

woah woah

The Corvette is the superlight

And i was comparing the M5 with the VXR8. not the monaro.

But they ( the monaro and the VXR8) are both based on the holden Commodore.

But the fact that Top Gear and Autocar both tested the M5 against the VXR8, says that they too see it as a rival, bespite both going about making a fast big 4 door saloon a completely different way.

This isnt some kind of Saab "its really a vectra" discussion.

We're discussing how comparable cars like the corvette / monaro are, and the VXR 8 / 5.

Both the monaro and the corvette have similar aims, 2 door FR coupe. But go about it differently

Same with the VXR8 and M5, both big heavy saloons, Front Engine RWD, with very big engines in the front. In this repsect they are very simiilar, but yet very different.

Nobody is insinuating that the corvette is just a monaro in party frock the same way That the scirroco is a golf in a party frock.

Can you learn how to write in context please?

Kthxbye.

ped·i·gree (pd-gr)
n.
1.
a. A line of ancestors; a lineage.
b. A list of ancestors; a family tree.
2. A chart of an individual's ancestors used in human genetics to analyze Mendelian inheritance of certain traits, especially of familial diseases.
3. A list of the ancestors of a purebred animal.

The M5 has a pedigree of thoroughbread performance saloons, exceptional german build quality, and has a list of notable ancestors like the E39 M5.

The corvette has a similar pedigree, for being a lightweight supercar. Again, Corvettes back in history have always been notable, and performance orientated.

They dont have THE SAME pedigree. I said they both had A pedigree

Let me break this down for you

The corvette has a similar pedigree to the M5 - [not for uber reliable german build quality (like the M5 does)] but for being a very light, very focused supercar contender.

Make more sense now ? you've just jumped the gun to have a go. Sometimes you come across on this forum like a right stuck up ****

What like not very?

Aah, so they are similar to the Ferrari 599GTB?

Nobody is insinuating that the corvette is just a monaro in party frock the same way That the scirroco is a golf in a party frock.

I think they are - this entire thread was spawned by possibly the most bizarre post I've seen all year, asking why a Corvette costs more than a Monaro and implying they are the same because the engine is the same.

And then suggesting that 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 0-60 in 6 seconds isnt much different.

It's been a completely ridiculous thread from the very start.

Well i'm not

the key here is "similar"

this does not mean the same. No wonder your on your high horse if you think im trying to argue that an a monaro is similar to the Corvette in the same way the A3 is similar to the Golf.

A focus is similar to a golf - because they're both 3 or 5 door mid sized hatchbacks. This "similar" term doesnt mean they have to share 99 % of components or whatever. They are "similar" because they both aim to do similar things - ie in the same class - one of a 3/5 door hatchback. Thats why they get compared in road tests ! just like the VXR8 and M5 did.

You used the word similar pedigree not A pedigree, that would suggest it is one of the same attribute. Which is exactly how I read it.

The M5 costs a fortune to run. It has no such regard as being uber german reliable. Hence your sentence made sense other than to the one who wrote it...

Stuck up ****?

Doesn't seem to bother Jez or Paradigm. Nor me.
