I'm now considering getting none at launch. A big part of me wants to avoid the xbox just out of principle. I may wait to see if a xbox style controller for ps4 comes out

Our average disposable income is around 20% lower than in the States. Not to mention significantly higher cost of living in many places.

And yet that state and local taxes are never as high in the US as they are here, many states are exempt from sales tax or ask you to pay a few % on top of the sale and the total price is still significantly lower than over here. Federal taxes don't come into account when purchasing electronics.

PS4 will cost $399 to most Americans. We have to pay £291 (~$451) plus VAT.

Sticking with PS4. Policies like indie dev support and self publishing, free patches, and slightly better hardware are important. Oh and the cost too.

That said, I won't be buying one at launch. Probably some time in 2014.

I agree with him,I'm not interested in the Kinnect at all..Although it is nice to hear M$ have seen sense now..we will see.

Depends on what is included, healthcare can be a huge hit if you need something serious or have a chronic condition.

I know well paid professionals who have been almost taken to the cleaners cause family members have got sick (father with cancer in this case) and they basically had a choice, spend a lot of money to keep your father alive (hopefully) or dont and pay for hospice care.

Its the outside the norm things in the states that cost you money. They do on average have more disposable income (if they dont live in new york or some parts of california).

I lived in the US for awhile (Houston Texas) so i know what health insurance costs over there. I paid $1500 for a root canal as well so factor that in and it starts looking diffrent.

The way I see it, Microsoft is taking a big step forward by including always on Kinect with Xbox One, since that will ensure that developers always consider integration of their games with the new system. They won't have to make it optional because everyone will have Kinect already.

I doubt Sony and Microsoft are taking into account the costs of a root canal or proper health insurance when setting up the MSRP in the UK, but you raise some good points about the real cost of living. I bet Canadians get the best of both worlds and Australians are the most screwed over by the gaming industry.

I can see what your saying. I don't see why it always has to be connected and taking up space on your TV cabinet though. Surely they could just have included it in the box and allowed people to connect it when and if they need it for any games?

Kinect is an evolving platform that seamlessly integrates into more than just games. Microsoft is trying to push the voice commands as the new way of controlling your media centre (that includes TV as well). Xbox One is just a gaming console any more.
 
Definitely getting the xbox one now, put down a £35 deposit at Game the other day. WAs thinking about the PS4 but honestly i just dont think it will suit me and plus i like the xbox platform as it is.

The whole DRM thing doesnt bother me in the slightest and even the kinect thing doesnt bother me. I mean lets be honest, google and M$ already have most of my info so i couldnt care less really...i suppose as long as im not doing anything illegal ill be fine:p

I only play racing games on console and horror based games so I looked at Drive club (30 fps with terrible streaming textures and popup) and forza 5 (60fps locked with godlike textures) and also Nothing for ps4 against Dead rising 3 running on xbox one.

Basically I hate microsoft but they have the best games and these are 1-2 years into console life classics but are available day one.

If I wanted fps and other types of game like simulation and rpg I'd go ps4 but I have a good pc to play these on and the best jrpgs wont be out over here until 2015.

It missed the eSRAM m4rk84 so therefore you fail :p. Does the XO only have 2 USB3? Damn one is going to taken up by an external HDD sooner rather than later - bit short-sighted...

EDIT: No I swear there was a third on its side at the reveal - missed that too...

It does miss a host of other stuff too. Like the PS4's CPU being a slightly different more powerful version of the Jaguar etc. but it is pretty good or as good as I have seen!

A few other notable things:

Xbox:
- The hard drive cannot be removed but you can plug in USB thumb drives or external USB hard drives. You also have 'unlimited' cloud storage, but I imagine there is a catch to that.
- You now only need one xbox live gold account for all user accounts on an Xbox One.

PS4:
- Comes with ear bud headphones and the controller has a 'play and charge' type battery built in, while the Xbox does not (play and charge kit is sold separately for Xbox it will take batteries otherwise).
- You can apparently take over a friends game if needed to 'help' them if they need it although there are not many details on that.
- Sony has stated they will not allow online passes. (DRM to disable multiplayer on 2nd hand games)
