At least 50% more powerful? It won't be even close to that.

It's not. It *is* more powerful though, but nowhere near that number in real world terms. The PS3 was more powerful than Xbox 360 but it didn't serve it much good in terms of multi-format games.

The PS4 is of course, easier to develop for because they finally looked to the West for help in designing architecture (something I wanted them to do for PS3) and that's obviously to help this (because the 'Cell' was a pig), but it's still new. When they get a harness on it it will be brilliant and I do feel PS4 may see the better version of multi-format titles, but the actual numbers ultimately mean little because even with the PS3 we saw, at least 90% of the time, very little difference on those multi-format releases.

Pros and cons for me

PS4:
Pros:
more powerful machine
cheaper
headset in box

Cons:
Interface is awful
I dont want to social network EVER, so they can **** off with that.
Pad still looks dubious

Xbox
Pros:
Live service is excellent
Better pad (imo)
Interface is nice (on the 360 anyway, havent seen One's)
Better exclusive games

Cons:
Not as powerful
Cant upgrade hard drive
No headset
Watches you touching yourself

Ive voted PS4 but Im not entirely convinced yet tbh.

Sony's social stuff is entirely optional. Headset is ridiculously cheap and is something I'll be upgrading immediately.

Xbox One allows you to use external storage and USB, so that's not a problem and Kinect can be turned off completely, so again, a none issue.

The biggest draw for me personally on the PS4 outside of gaming, is the lack of subscription required to use things like netflix. MS want a the X1 to be at the centre of every living room but will continue to charge £40+ each year for that

I've not paid more than £27 for Xbox Live Gold in the last 5 years, so I'm not sure where £40+ comes from.

No you don't. You do NOT pay for Kinect. You pay for Xbox One and it comes with Kinect. It's part of the system.
This is the misconception here. The simple fact is that Xbox One is just more expensive than PS4.

So the Kinect isn't factored into the price at all for them? So if it came without it you would pay the same price?

I don't think you can turn it off but you can put it into low power mode iirc.
No, you can turn it off. It's a requirement in countries such as Germany that you can completely kill devices and not just have them in a low-power on state. Microsoft have already stated several times that it has multiple states, one of those *is* the low-power state that you mention and that's what Microsoft focused on with their "Xbox On" command, but you can go further and turn it all off.

Which, considering our bodies are parallel, is logical ;).

Would make sense if not for the fact that the primary inputs on the right hand are the face buttons, not the right analogue stick. The buttons are there because it's the more comfortable, neutral position for the thumb. Being that our bodies are 'parallel' and the fact that the primary movement input isn't the d-pad anymore, it would make sense for the left thumbstick to be higher, where the d-pad is situated.

Using your theory.

Just read on Kotaku and it seems you can actually turn it off fully. MS really need to release a statement with all these answers on, there is so much old/false info out there it's unreal!

Cancelled ps4 in favour of xbone

For me its reversal of the second hand games.

I do feel bad as without ps4s stance this wouldn't have happened. Alas, I don't know ps exclusives and still don't think I'll get on with the controller

Oh wonderful...

I hope they have substantially improved those play and charge kits as the 360 ones were dire. I ended up going through about 4 of them with the longest lived one lasting about a year before giving up on them and resorting to having the controllers permanently plugged in.

It would be cheaper, but it's PART OF THE SYSTEM. So saying you're paying for it is ridiculous. That's what it costs. It'd be cheaper without a control pad, or HDMI lead, or Blu-Ray drive too. But they're also part of the system and that's what it costs.

What MS could do is lower the cost and make money over a longer time from software sales, but they wouldn't do it by removing a part of the system.
