Im not particularly pushing the self publishing angle on the basis I expect good games from it, its moreso that everyone has to start somewhere, like ND did. It seems far better to embrace these people than shun them like weve heard that MS have done with a few (Braid dev being the most vocal).

Ultimately they are likely to bring the Uncharteds of the next-gen and I doubt theyll forget how they were treated as indies...

@Shami - youve got to wonder if Don Mattrick is a Sony mole, hes continously made mixed messages and badly linked ones that its no surprise the flack MS are taking. For example, if you are going to be doing something for Indies, dont just purely announce the demise of XBLIG, announce the change then the removal not the other way around. Man MS need a shake up in who communicates with the press and consumers.

And as I said to you in another thread XBLA has a policy not to accept games that have been on competing platforms, I know you qualified Minecraft and I cant argue against that, but theres plenty out there that have felt forced to publish on XBLA before PSN because of that policy. Not a great way to endear yourself to a dev?

I wonder the amount of people moaning about the One price bought the PS3 on release, that was £400 wasn't it??

Well the PS3 really struggled at launch compared to the 360 didn't it?

Which would suggest to me those moaners probably didn't buy the PS3 at launch.

So was i, surely the Dreamcast killed off the Dreamcast rather than entirely the PS2.
Well yeah, through it's ridiculous lack of good marketing compared to PS2 (and how hard it was to develop for if I remember rightly), but if the PS2 hadn't been so successful, the Dreamcast would have lasted longer. That's my view and I'm sticking to it :D

Yes, their communication is atrocious at the moment, no-one can deny that. It's lead to people sprouting things as fact which simply aren't true.

I'm all for a vetting process, XBLIG was just full of crap. You should have to prove your product before getting in onto a console, not just make a crappy Minecraft ripoff.

It appears that I'm in the minority for wanting an xbox, though my choice is driven more by controller preference.

I find it surprising that you can make your entire platform choice based on the controller... both of which have had redesigns, and neither of which you have held in your hands yet! :p

Surely we buy the game and we can do what we want with it. Sell it, give it away etc....

Again, this isn't the case on Steam, and everyone bloody loves Steam!

Sony have also explicitly stated that DRM / used game policy decisions lie with the publisher. There is nothing to stop someone like EA / ActiBlizz / etc. from using always online DRM, game activation codes etc. etc.!

I wouldn't draw too much from this very small and specific sub section of the total market.

Normally I'd agree on this stuff on forums but this particular forum has been very very pro xbox and xbox users and one way or another MS have managed to flip more or less die hard fans onto their rivals console.

They just about made it through the Red Ring, if they do not reverse this trend towards the Xbox one I think you have another Dreamcast situation in coming. I would not buy one at launch now because I'm convinced the price will have to be slashed due to poor sales.

Personally for what it is I don't have an issue with the price. It's only £30 or so more than I expected but as I said I fully expect poor sales to slash that price. I certainly don't think there will be stock problems this year.

So I predict a price cut and a free xbox live arcade game to early adopters who paid over the odds ;)

You just need to look on twitter and facebook to see that the rebellion against the XB1 is far larger than just a few tech or gaming websites and forums

Again, this isn't the case on Steam, and everyone bloody loves Steam!

Pricing model isn't the same, PC games are at least a tenner cheaper at launch aren't they? Xbox games digitally won't be and look how long they want to charge stupid prices for them as downloads.

I'd be all for it if the pricing was similar to steam.

People love steam because of their sales! I'm not so sure steam would have such a loyal following without their amazing sales.

I have a ton of AAA games on steam and I payed amazing prices for most of them.

Yep.. I made that point in another thread. Steam have great sales. Batnam Arkham City - 75% off. Yes please thank you very much, do I care I can't sell on it? At 75% off RRP nope..

Xbox one, all games no matter where I get them, same pricing structure as we've got now for 360 games, can I sell them on? Nope. Heck can't even lend them out without issues..!! and guess what.. After 5 years I can still play my Steam games, in fact long as I've got a working PC. xbox one, erm what about when the console is EOL? What then MS eh? Chuck my xbox one in the bin, along with all its games.. Yeah great idea.!!

Steam works only due to games being cheaper and they are yours to keep for as long as you have a working PC - any PC with that you can game on, even full price new AAA games are cheaper on Steam then consoles, and if you wait a few months they generally pop up at 50% less so, Steam works due to good prices.

You can't compare steam to consoles like some are. If PS4 means you can sell your games, then PS4 is the better choice IMO. Its principle really..

I think social media will pick up the trends from the more dedicated tech/gaming sites and run with it, so its probably quite easy to be exposed to that unless you just dont enjoy a social network presence.

Ive had a few less-techy friends ask me stuff about whats happening purely what theyve noticed on FB.

After the intial release and E3 I am heavily leaning towards the PS4 but I haven't placed a pre-order as still some time to go to release so going to see if/what other info is released before deciding so voted undecided.

Tricky one for me, I got a 360 from launch and stuck with it throughout. I do have a PS3 and it has barely been used for gaming, more as a Blu-ray player. Because of that history, friends with the same console and the continuity I was pretty much guaranteed to buy the new Xbox.

I'm not massively fussed on the internet check personally, but I don't understand why they've done it. Plenty of people use their consoles offline so it just seems like a very short sighted decision.

Games wise, I've never really been swayed one way or the other. I can't say I've ever been that interested in one game that it would make a difference. There will always be games on both platforms to suit me.

The licensing thing is the strange one for me. I'm not one for keeping hold of my games, I either trade them in to Amazon or the high street or flog them on ebay. I never replay them so I don't want to keep them. The uncertainty about this whole process is what worries me, not knowing where you can trade them in and how the whole process will pan out. Paying £50 for release games and then being unable to just sell them on if I don't like them doesn't sit right with me.

I've never been a massive fan of DLC, or digital content, down the lack of ability to sell it on. I have dozens of arcade games on the 360 that I'd have loved to just rent digitally and then complete.

The final big sticking point, is that if Microsoft are pushing towards digital downloads then they need to address their absolutely appalling pricing policies. The first game I checked just then on Xbox.com is Halo 4. Still at £39.99. I could buy it for £20 from Amazon (first place I checked), complete it and trade it back to them for £7.

If Microsoft have a plan for counteracting this, they are certainly not communicating it very well.

I own both a PS3 and a 360, the 360 is pretty much where I spend most of my time. I bought an original Xbox at release, 360 at release, signed up for live pretty much at the beginning - 10 year old gamertag - BUT I don't want to be force fed Kinect. So for me the choice is simple, I'm going PS4. :)

I'm still undecided but I'm leaning toward the PS4. I however doubt I will actually put any money down on one for a pre order until about a week or so before launch.

This may change between now and November.
