This should have been a visible poll, so you could see all those ranting about the Xbox to then have the breaking strain of a wet kit kat and buy one anyway.

I'm probably going to give this gen a miss altogether and go back to PC gaming, I don't play much anymore anyway. I don't feel the urge to get either straight away and this time I will wait to see what games come along I really want to play on a console.

I said this before at the 360 launch:(

Gonna be interesting to see sales figures and numbers for first 4-6 months of them being out, I don't think sony will out-do MS by as much as people are saying, and how many people are bashing the One and praising PS4 otherwise we will see 80% ps4, which wont happen.

Those figures are rather worrying :\

If you add XboxONE, Both and Undecided together... That's 230...Still 40 votes away from PS4 only votes :o:(

(at the time of posting obviously)

I'm sorry but competition is a good thing, last thing we want to see if a generation dominated by one console!!

It's got to be a PS4 for me, even though I never had or wanted a PS3.

The xbox1 is just too packed with features I won't use, and that has made it a good chunk more expensive then its rival, so it's an easy decision for me this generation. So far at least.

I wouldn't draw too much from this very small and specific sub section of the total market.

With all the talk of DRM etc I think one thing that isn't mentioned perhaps as much as it should be is Sony's support for self publishing on the PS4. With free and easy engines like Unity really taking off and funding initiatives like Kickstarter, indie titles are going to be more and more prominent with higher quality in the coming years.

Sony really came out strong in support of indie games whereas Microsoft really kind of failed in this regard.

A quote has been taken wildly out of context and now people are assuming there will be no Indie games on Xbox One.

What has been taken out of context? A self developer can publish games onto the PS4 whereas this option is not available without a publisher on the One.

I decided not to vote as there wasn't one that really fit. I predict that it will be the same for me as this generation. I would get a PS4 about a year after release and a XBone maybe a year after that. I'm almost certain i will get a PS4 eventually but i can't say for any certainty that i would get an XBone, it would have to be a cracking deal.

Whilst it's a good thing in some ways, i'd prefer competition from within the developer communities rather than manufacturers. Ultimately as consumers we suffer as devs are catering to multiple systems, going with the lowest common denominator etc. I'd rather all their focus and attention be on a single platform, resulting in a better games. As proven by 1st/3rd party exclusives this gen.

When the PS2 was dominating, i think it's fair to say it wasn’t bad for gaming; in fact it was probably the best era for games, variety of games, and quality of games in any generation.

Yes, but people don't understand what Indie games are. So someone said we wouldn't have got games like Braid when these weren't self published anyway.

It's MS fault really, they've been vague which has led people to assume things. There's nothing to stop games coming onto an XBLA like system in the future, they could use an approval process like Greenlight or MS could publish them like they did with Braid.

Arcade was a big things for Microsoft on 360 (and imo one of the best things about last gen), I doubt very much that they'll just abandon that. Hell they've already announced Minecraft on Xbox One, one of the most famous Indie games around.

Here is a more recent quote:

"We're going to have an independent creator program," Don Mattrick, Microsoft's head of interactive entertainment (read: he's in charge of the Xbox), told me last week. "We're going to sponsor it. We're going to give people tools. We're going to give more information."

Mattrick mentioned this during my brief interview with him regarding the future of game consoles. We didn't get into self-publishing and he declined to share specifics just yet. He did, at least, praise the success of Minecraft and other indie-developed games and cited his own career trajectory. He may be an executive now, but back in the day, he was a game designer, starting young with racing games such as Test Drive.

"That is something we think—I think—is important," he said of an indie program. "That's how I started in the industry. There's no way we're going to build a box that doesn't support that."

Not for me, I was a Dreamcast fan, I hated the PS2 for killing it off. Still got one eventually, but I'll never forgive the PS2 for getting rid of my beloved Dreamcast. :D

I'm aware of the creator program... and I know full well what an indie game is...

Indie games are about discovery, all the creator program will be is a way for small developers to pitch ideas to publishers which they can reject without having played the game. It's the same as greenlight honestly, lots of the green lit games only manage to get on steam after gaining momentum with alpha builds that are not on steam but have gained praise from Indie fans that have been enjoying them.

A world where the only way to get your game played is through these sorts of creator programs is a world where Minecraft may not have seen the light of day.

We may well see many of the best Indie games on the Xbox One, but it will be after they gain praise from other places like the PS4 or Desura.
