are both consoles having dedicated servers for all games this time round? or the normal P2P rubbish?

im guessing thats down to the games publishers, ms and sony arnt going to pay for game servers for ea for example.

only servers i know of are the xbox live and psn ones and the magical sparkly cloud stuff. as for actual game servers we'l have to wait and see what the publishers do.

If you think publishers will only want money from used games off one platform and not the other, you're a bit delusional

That's what everybody had been saying for months leading up to the XB1 reveal. Look how that turned out. Microsoft are the ones who wanted this, not the devs/publishers.

ms console just doesn't appeal to me. they force to much stuff that i don't want like kinetic as well as being quite expensive. i just want a console not some media hub with a lot of restrictions on how to use it. they have no right to tell me how to use it and that's why playstation 4 is what i'll be buying although i really hate the sony controller. i hope in the future they re-design it more like ms one. i'm not really worried about games. i've grown tired of halo, forza and gow. most of the new games look like sequels while i was impressed by sony variety at e3

sony have done nothing as of yet, but they have also said (in regards to first part games at least) theres no limits as to what you can do with the physical discs. the thing is what the publishers do and how silly they get with drm and limitations, although a few have already said they dont like what ms are doing as it will limit sales.

as for not thinking its going digital, id say its 50/50, yes they are pushing the digital sales of media so they can do a steam and bag impulse sales, but they will also doing it to control what happens with resales, as well as making sure when there's specials on there not too special as what was asked on that angry joe video where major nelson started to sling the muck at steam when he was asked if ms would do sales as good as steam do. so im guessing they wont be, i know im sound cynical as hell but ms are there to make money and going digital makes them more money per unit, how that will work out units sold i dont know but going off all the polls floating around its going to hurt them id say.
How can it be 50/50 they have said it is entirely digital, a physical copy is no more than a file with a digital license.

Yep, this is Microsoft's biggest mistake. They are trying to force digital licensing onto everybody, where as Sony are allowing you to choose between having a physical copy or downloading the digital version.

Oh I totally agree, but now that Microsoft have done this, publishers are hardly going to turn their noses up at the opportunity for more money. So if they're able to charge it off one console, they certainly will the other as Sony have allowed them to do so.

So the discs on xbox don't even contain any data? You still have to download it? That's crazy!

I find it a bit odd at how much of the population they are basically removing potential sales from!
If this is the case and you get 500Gb of space and have to uninsall a game if you run out of space and install it later that is very annoying for people with pants bandwidth!

There was a poll for how many pre orders amazon had taken and it was something crazy like 10:1 in favour of the PS4.

Someone said that the disc contains just a licence to play, perhaps I misunderstood, it does have the game install data on surely?

I bought a game for pc recently that literally was just a licence

The disc still has the game data on it for you to install from, you just have to activate it online afterwards. Installing from disc will be my preferred method as I'm not on fibre broadband yet, so I'm glad it's still going to be around for a while yet.

I think it's a little naive to think that the devs and publishers don't want rid of the 2nd hand market considering it makes them no money. It's just that MS are the first console developer who seems to be pushing for it. It was always going to happen at some point, I just hope MS get it right (even if it takes a while) as I certainly wouldn't say no to a Steam like platform with semi-regular sales where I can pick up games from 6+ months ago for 50-75% of the original price.

Don't most ISPs have a 40gb limit? It's going to suck for people who want to play some of there friends shared games.
