I certainly wouldn't say no to a Steam like platform with semi-regular sales where I can pick up games from 6+ months ago for 50-75% of the original price.

major nelson has already said they will do sales but when pushed about doing sales to the same scale of steam he started to **** steam off, so from that im guessing big sales will never happen.

So the discs on xbox don't even contain any data? You still have to download it? That's crazy!

I find it a bit odd at how much of the population they are basically removing potential sales from!
If this is the case and you get 500Gb of space and have to uninsall a game if you run out of space and install it later that is very annoying for people with pants bandwidth!

They still have the install file, but its purely a digital license. There is zero reason to buy physical unless you have crap Internet.

I think it's a little naive to think that the devs and publishers don't want rid of the 2nd hand market considering it makes them no money. It's just that MS are the first console developer who seems to be pushing for it. It was always going to happen at some point, I just hope MS get it right (even if it takes a while) as I certainly wouldn't say no to a Steam like platform with semi-regular sales where I can pick up games from 6+ months ago for 50-75% of the original price.

That's what I'm hoping for too. If they can mirror the Steam model with the perks that go with it it'll be perfect for me. It's all about the digital pricing and if they get it right it could be awesome.

Ah that's what I was getting at.

I was shocked when I put my retail pc game in and it download straight from steam!.. Not amusing when you have sub 1.5 megabit

PS4 most deffo. Sadly one of my favourite gaming activities is hunting through the bargain shelves at Game and Cex for good second hand deals.

How does the pricing on Steam work? Do the publishers set the sale prices? So if I buy a bumper Codemasters pack for a ridiculously low price (which I have done in the past) is it the publisher selling it to me? Do Valve make anything out of it?

Im late to this thread, I picked PS4 as its the one Im def getting at release, but I will eventually get both as I already have a PS3 and 360, I hate missing out on exclusives lol

i honestly dont know how it works exactly, but id imagine steam works like a shop so they set the final price BUT publishers set a price per unit to steam. so steam basically stick something on top to cover running costs and a set profit percentage.

Any idea what are the confirmed day of release titles for the PS4? I have pre-ordered the PS4 along with Destiny, The Division and Watch Dogs. I am also thinking about pre-ordering Dying Light.

Also do we have a confirmed UK date for the PS4.

I doubt that there will be a shift from how it is now, where games are cheaper to be bought online from retailers than online through Live. Therefore there will be plenty of reasons to buy physical games.

Edit - Plus you can sell your games, it's just not as easy. You will still be able to go into high street stores and trade things in, we just don't know how much they will give you and how the proess works in it's entirety.

Its a bit early for people to be pushing for information on game sales of a console that is being released 5mths from now.

I'll still get both consoles, but I am definitely more excited about the Xbox One than I am about the PS4.

Just digging a deeper and deeper hole here guysh.

I'm sick of Xbox expecting everyone to move onto the digital age, I'm surprised they bothered to put a disc drive in their box if they want everything on the cloud instead. I have used Steam for many years but the one thing missing is owning the physical game box, the manual and maps.

My internet isn't bad maybe average but UK broadband is still behind a lot of countries and it can take hours to download just one game. We're not ready to totally convert to the digital age, but this might happen on the next gen after xbox1 and ps4.

That's been posted before, not sure which thread.

I don't see how this is much different from how it is now on either console, surely if I get banned from Live or PSN I will lose my digital purchases?

Either way, their support staff shouldn't be telling customers things like this, especially if untrue. Literally pushing customers away. So far, Microsoft's PR has been laughable.

I think it's more likely to happen during this coming generation, rather than the one after it, as fibre broadband becomes more and more common. In 3-4 years when the majority of people (or perhaps, the majority of gamers) have fibre, then going digital fully will be a much more appealing prospect. If that's the case, by implementing the infrastructure now, MS will be in a much stronger position to take full advantage of that.

I'm not saying it will definitely happen, but it's something to consider.
