Which Yongnuo flash to choose?

Will be using it mainly in small indoor places, houses, school etc I would think, along with the odd smallish wedding venue, so it doesn't have to be outstanding, just something better than the built in popup flash really.

budget 465 - it will do the job.

bit more budget - 468 - it will do the job a tiny bit better (zoom head etc)

I use a 465 and a 460II. A 560 is on its way for more ocf.

I just received the YN-560 today and having tested it alongside the 430EX on some umbrellas I am very pleased with its performance and also build quality. It's the first Yongnuo flash I have owned and using the RF602 kit both worked splendidly.

All my umbrellas are silver reflecting, is there a marked difference using white umbrellas in light throw?

Also anyone got a link to the triple gun mount for the stands?

Ta!

I made that triple mount in the photo, but I later got one off the bay, don't know if I can post a link?.
Shoot through umbrella is less efficient, but a little softer and less contrasty.
My favourite type of brolly is a white convertible used in reflective mode.

The general consensus is shoot through, usually looks better for older folks and reflective looks better for younger folks.

Ah cool stuff, will have to have a go at DIYing one methinks! eBay is allowed to be linked here btw.

I've just ordered two white 33" umbrellas off eBay for pittance so will see how the results go and if I do like it then will probably buy some more heavy duty white ones although depending on the quality I might not even need to :)

I have a YN-468 on the way but had a question about batteries.

I don't think I will use it a great deal but is it still worth investing in some decent rechargeable batteries or would some decent duracel be fine?

Recycle times will be lower using higher rated rechargeable batts but quality alkaline will provide a longer shelf life TBH. Buy a 10 pack of Duracell Procell for a few quid on eBay and you'll be fine for quite a while given your usage :)

I use Procell on mine as backups but Energiser 2500mAH and while the Duracells last and last and last the Energisers to have slightly faster recycle times although it also means they drain a faster.

No probs and FWIW I mentioned 10pack but you can get 30+ Procells for under a tenner too from UK sellers :)

Can someone explain to me please what is the advantage of the zoom head of the 468 over the 465?

I know nothing about flashguns but slowly picking things up.

I went for the 468 in the end, was only £12 more, so I thought it would be worth it. Ordered that and 8 of the 2300 Instant VapexTech batteries. Looking forward to it now.

Thanks again for all your advice guys :)

if it can charge 2500mah batteries in two hours, then it must use a charging rate of over 1000ma.

it will work, but dont expect you batteries to be in good shape after 100 charges or so. The batteries are cheap though so its a toss up really.

it alters the focus of the light according to your lens focal length.

wide = big spread of light, long = tight spread of light.

Ah, I see; thank you. Do they usually work out the light spread automatically based on the focal length, or does it have to be changed manually for each shot? Latter sounds a bit annoying.
