White man doing a Black thing?

Ther are a lot of aesthetic and social stereotypes associated with black people, which is where this all comes from. I must say personally Eminem trying to act black (Because in the end of the day, it is what he's trying to do) does annoy me. Not to the extent of me insulting him or saying that he's trying to do a "Black thing" and that it's wrong, I can just tell he is and I wonder why.
I was about to question this statement, but gilly already did it...

A silly statement.

In response to that, I honestly dont know what he would say but i guess it wont be far from what you mentioned.

Ok why would that be then? what sort of reasoning would they give as to why they have this attitude to race? and is this sort of attitude common in black guys?

You mention UB40 Snow etc, what would their attitude to white women be who were RnB singers etc?

:EDIT: not trying to trick you into some sort of racial agruement, Im genuinely curious,

I dont know, i see beyond black or white...more like colours and spectrum unknown to the human vision! Seriously....I dont know. I am a black person and i can only speak for myself and not every other black.

As per RnB singers, It is the same thing i have heard people said often e.g People consider Jose stone to be doing a black thing - trying to sound soulful.....

I guess it all boils down to what some have suspected all along - Racism is every where. :(

It is everywhere ElRazur - and unfortunately thats the way of the world, Im the same, I dont see colour, i listen to music without any influence of colour or creed, its coincidence that the music ive been listening to now for over 20 years is predominantly black music, so perhaps the fact that my musical heroes are almost without exception, all black, makes me the exception rather than the rule, my wifes father for instance, although a difference generation, if he's in my car and im listening to Eric B and Rakim or MF Doom will say "your still listening to that n****r music then?"

I wouldn't listen to any music influenced by Creed either - they sucked hard. Haven't heard of Colour.

apologies - it's one of those days

I'm sure there was similar discussion about the same issue couple of months back and I'm going to say exactly the same thing as last time.

Of course there artists out there that are nothing more than a wannabe black. Artists pretending to be or borrowing from characteristics of prodominantly black culture. Faking accent, dressing like Gangsta. Some of you say spending years in black neighnourhood can change a man into one. I say bull, gentlemen, it's just such a handy token - Greystoke, Legend of Tarzan among Apes, eh? Does living with women in the house for 18 years make you wear dress, high stilletos and lipstick? If a kid grows up in East London do you think by high school he will nod with a flute charming snakes and speak Benghali? Of course not, so let's cut the crap with Eminem and his story, yo, amma poor whigger raised in Black Scary Ghetto, yo, lemme aks you this brotha' tadadim tadam, hey, fo shizzle bombastic yo, ho, aha aha. Come on. It's just convenient way of creating buzz.

Clapton and Elvis are bad examples - they weren't trying to be black - they merely brushed against music created by black people ages ago. They were effect of music evolution, not immitators. White man singing reggae is a different story, it's more like middle class kid from private school with black jamaican accent. Sean Paul, was it? Now, that's just stupid. It is stupid and funny, like, let me quote previous post on this matter "chinese guys dressed like gang from "Grease" or eskimo Elvis in Las Vegas outfit shouting "tank yoo very mootch". Or better yet - this black Fonzie is an example of amusingly misinterpreted cultural identity - this is the exact mirror of what "whigga" immitators look like compared to blacks:

You can't take immitators seriously.

How on earth can someone get something so wrong.

Grow up in East London, see what accent you have and see what kind of person you are and what kind of mannerisms you have. Do it again in Yorkshire. Do it again in South Africa, do it again in Siberia.

Do you think the same person if he could be replicated 4 times would grow up the same person?

Don't be daft.

elvis presley did a "black thing"... and made it his own

What Elvis did, was take old black blues songs, and completely reworked them until they were country/hillbilly tunes. Elvis did not ever try to be black, or make "Black" music. He recognised that some little-known blues songs were well crafted, but that he would prefer to sing them in a country style.

In the very early days, Elvis did some straight covers of Little Richard's songs. Whilst good, few people would mistake these as being performed by a black man. They sound like what they are: songs sung by a young white man. Elvis NEVER sung in a "black" style.

I beg your pardon? they was making music imo and wasnt trying to be black. Are you telling me you would say eminem, Vanilla ice, snow, Jin, Fat Joe...are all trying to be black?

Perhaps put badly but I think he meant that Elvis, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis and later the Beatles etc were doing what was commonly known as music that belonged to blacks. Rock n roll was a black music that came from the blues.
America was burning Elvis's records because of his black sound (perhaps not intended) and its connotations with the devils music.
Jimi Hendrix was not a black man doing white music - he was doing black music.

eminem the best rapper of all time who can beat ANYONE in a battle. .

Nah not at all, Where do you put Tupac  , Big L, Christopher Wallace, Cannibus, Papoose....Just to name a few who will chew eminem's arse on the mic in a battle.

On top of that mtv survey concluded that Tupac was the greatest of all time, followed by biggie....

Voted for by people who have a knowledge of hiphop that extends from Channel 340 to channel 365 on Sky...

Dont be daft man, and quit posting your recluse-like statement. Eminem is featured on MTV a lot, i think it would be fair to say he's got more video shown on mtv than tupac or biggie for example. He was included in the vote and had the chance like every other person.

Google tupac and you will see that he is acknowledge as the greatest rapper ever period.

Whatever your opinion, the vote represent what we already know.

Tupac and Biggie were far from being the best rappers ever though, Tupac was fleetingly brilliant, but did churn out a lot of dross too. Biggie was more consistant, but had a fraction of the material Tupac released. Both are great though, I still think Rakim is the best rapper ever, but id give honourable mentions to Kool G Rap, Big L for his awesome freestyles, Nas (again, fleetingly brilliant at times), and my all time favorite MF Doom.

Cannibus still has the best delivered rap in his funkmaster flex track "ive been getting busy since the planets started to turn" its genius :)

Its all subjective though, thats the great thing about hip hop, theres so many styles and flavours to choose from, no one is wrong in their opinion.
