White man doing a Black thing?

I beg your pardon? they was making music imo and wasnt trying to be black. Are you telling me you would say eminem, Vanilla ice, snow, Jin, Fat Joe...are all trying to be black?

The Beatles definitely wanted to be black.. via Paul imitating Little Richard or by proxy through wanting to be Elvis...

Another black rock star.. Slash. :D

Well since Rock music has it's roots in the blues you could argue that all musicians are trying to be black. Mind you, the 60's musicians who were influenced by the blues took it to a level Robert Johnson et al could never have dreamed of.

And greatest rapper of all time, Shatner gets the vote for his work with Ben Folds! ;)

I dont know if it is the other way round i.e a black man punk band or rock etc, Let me know if it is.

To some, but bear in mind that white people tend to see their cuture as a universal thing... for example, if I refer to an aspect of 'white culture' the suggestion that we had practices that ethnic minorities were not a part of would most likely get some people's backs up whereas the same people would likely be happy to describe something non-negative as part of 'black culture'...

Out of the bands I listen to, there are a few black musicians peppered around here and there and I don't think 'they should be playing black music' becasue the music I am thinking of is like nothing else anyway...

I try not to think of music as a black and white thing, if only becuase there are so much good music made by black people, and so much good music played by white people I wouldn't want to sour my experience of it by attaching any tribal type feelings to it... I dont even like to think of Rage Against The Machine's colour as being an issue, despite the fact that they have got some lyrics that could be considered anti-white because I like the music so much that I wouldn't want to spoil it with petty concerns.

Since Ocuk is predominantly caucausian (or non-blacks) I wanna hear what you guys think of artist who are doing things done mostly by black artist. e.g Eminem, Vanilla Ice, UB 40, Snow,... erm Goldie Lookin Chain?... etc. Since they are doing a black thing are they accepted by the white/non-black audience etc..

Thanks.

Individual merit really, I don't think anyone could say a bad word about Madness or The Police. What comes around goes around, black influences white, influences black and so forth... I think people should only be concerned about the quality of the music.

Nah not at all, Where do you put Tupac  , Big L, Christopher Wallace, Cannibus, Papoose....Just to name a few who will chew eminem's arse on the mic in a battle.

On top of that mtv survey concluded that Tupac was the greatest of all time, followed by biggie....

After watching a Tupac documentary I would say that Tupac might be able to out-perform Eminem, simply because the guy was so damn charismatic. It really surprised me just HOW charismatic he was, but I can understand the whole "Tupac lives" thing now

You put a white kid in the middle of a bunch of black kids and raise him there and see how it affects the way he acts, talks, etc. In fact, you could do that for anything at all.

Then allow him to mix freely with his own kind again, and see if the results are so predictable...

Jung wrote a lot of interesting ideas about how a person can suffer malaise if they do not fully understand their genetic heritage (that's not just racial, but regional as well) unfortunately some of his work was based upon working with Jewish people shortly before WW2 and in a reaction to Nazism it was mostly dismissed before it was properly examined.

Google tupac and you will see that he is acknowledge as the greatest rapper ever period.
I don't need to, thanks; There's very little he's put out (pre- or post-death) that I haven't heard.

There are many out there with better flow and better lyrical ability than Tupac.

Whatever your opinion, the vote represent what we already know.

The vote represents opinion....And twenty quid says it represents the most popular rapper, not the best ;)

How on earth can someone get something so wrong.

Grow up in East London, see what accent you have and see what kind of person you are and what kind of mannerisms you have. Do it again in Yorkshire. Do it again in South Africa, do it again in Siberia.

Do you think the same person if he could be replicated 4 times would grow up the same person?

Don't be daft.

So you really think a white guy in council estate will grow up to be just like his asian mates? Come on. He's not even going to talk with pakistani accent let alone mannerisms or mindset. Ken Livinstone was born and bred in Brixton and he grew up to be hard core communist with Holloway cabbie accent rather than shady beemer driving pimp in boa scarf and pink fur. You have to want to be whigger to be a whigger. And you have to want it hard.

Since when is everyone on a council estate asian?

Wrong questions, but I'll answer anyway. East London council estates are de facto organized asian ghettos. Below I present thee local press, with pamflet insert for english minority. :)
