Who else used Facebook and didn't see the point of it?

I primarily use it for 2 things, keeping up with family - everyone posts status updates and pictures on there but we don't get to talk that often IRL and organising nights out, etc. especially with people from work - being a fairly diverse group we don't really socialise day to day outside of work but FB lets us communicate.

You can mange with or without it. It's not the be all and end all of "networking" or whatever you call it.

you can live without a car if you want to. My nextdoor neighbours do. They bus/walk it everywhere and take a taxi once a fortnight to go shopping.

Doesnt mean i would want to do without a car however.

I find Facebook absolutely invaluable now. It was very handy when at uni, as pointed out - organising parties, guestlists and whatnot, but now having travelled more and studied abroad, and with most of the people off my course living out in China/Japan, it's a fantastic way of seeing what they're all up to. There are a few people I still tend to write longer emails to privately, but it general it's just nice to keep up to date with what everyone's been doing.

I don't really get the spam comments - I just checked back through the last 5 pages of my newsfeed, going back to the start of the weekend, and didn't find any apps/games/farmville related stuff at all. Just block it, 2 clicks.

Facebook is a strange one for me....i was a user, then i decided that i no longer liked the way it was being used so decided to delete my account.

Now my wife keeps me up to date with everything thats happening by shouting it to me while she is upstairs on said facebook and i am downstairs trying to watch movies!

It has its place in society, just not in mine :D

Ah, another thread on FB with the same old discussion. I predict the following responses:

1) Hate facebook, people who use it are lame, I'm cool and don't need it.
2) Don't use facebook, I can keep up with my friends regardless of online social networking.
3) Indifference to the whole thing. Neither for nor against.
4) People who like it but are not overly fussed about it, find it useful to keep contact but don't let it overcome their life.
5) People love it who use it for everything in keeping up with their 1000+ friends and informing them of their bowl movements, etc.

I never used facebook, then I moved to the other side of the world and found it's very useful to keep in touch with family and friends. I wouldn't use it just to talk to people I see everyday thou, that's what your phone is for.

Heh i only broke down an joined facebook on Friday. I've pretty much added all the people i plan to add, doubt i'll go over the 50 mark.

Some people have 500+ "friends" Are all those people who they really want to keep in touch with ? Or are they just trying to look popular or something. One bloke i used to work with had 1,400 or so. That would drive me mad.

Job done.

I do find email more useful, but also because it contains the important FB updates that I have requested :p

3) Indifference to the whole thing. Neither for nor against. This is me because I do no there is different uses for it.

I'm using it as a way to keep in touch with friends back home while I'm out here in Canada for a year. Besides that, I don't have that much use for it.

Facebook depresses me. Which is why I don't use it. I don't have 500 or so "friends" who I need to keep up to date with. I only have a dozen or so REAL friends, and I use my mobile phone and Live messenger to keep up to date with them.
