Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Sports cat will be my next big purchase. Probably not till next year though as I've spent loads buying the milltek system and getting it fitted. Car tax is due and so is a service. The joy.

Haha, I've been looking into the Eibach extra lows :p

We will see :)

+1 for the Eibach extra lows, as mentioned, for £150 you can't go wrong!

Sits lovely! Heres 2 photos from a meet I went to on Sunday.
(Ignore the white plastic showing underneath the lower grill, I'm waiting for my splitter to arrive!)

It's been a very good but expensive week for my car :D

Got a new rear bumper fitted as my old one was damaged
Milltek 4-1 Manifold went on tonight
Going back tomorrow to have rear spacers put on

Hopefully be ordering a decat in the next couple of days so it'll end up sounding like this :)

Went well mate, sorted it no problems and a top bloke too. He also have me a good quote of 150 to fit cams and convinced me to decat :D pop up tonight? Going back to have spacers put on.

I don't finish work till 7, if you are both still down there i might pop down on the way home. Means I can avoid mrs's family gathering at my house :)

Yeah Ant is a top bloke, one of the best around to. Ever need anything, he will sort it.

Ah guess Ant didn't tell you about that one. I decided to keep, again.... lol

If i am free ill pop down and see how the car sounds. :)

What do you guys think of this : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201240487169321/

I have been without a car for two years (not needed one) but I am now in the market for getting a little run around. Initially, I was looking for something like a basic Fiesta/Mazda 2 - cheap to insure/tax, cheap to run and if anything goes wrong it's not going to break the bank.

However! As always I've tempted myself to go for something with a bit more spirit :)

The example above looks quite good?

Just a few questions to you ST owners:

The car above has done 38k....are things likely to start going wrong/needing to be replaced around this mileage? Does there seem to be a mileage "threshold" as with some other cars where it starts costing a fair bit of money, if so what is it? (I am after a relatively hassle free time with this car).

MPG – is it horrendous on the Fiesta ST’s as some people make out? Most of my driving will be urban with a motorway sprint here and there. As long as I am getting 28ish+ I’ll be happy.

Is there anything specific I should be looking out for if I go to view the car?
Generally are they fairly reliable cars? As previously stated I don’t really want this ending up to be a lot of hassle.

And finally....I am going to be parking this on a street in Manchester (no drive or garage) – From experience is it likely to get stolen/trashed? :)

Thanks for any advice!

Note, that one above says its a Moutune185 ST. So its got a full exhaust, Cold air induction system, uprated camshafts and value springs plus a remap over the top of standard fiesta. And as a result, fuel economy from standard will suffer slightly.

Fuel economy seems to vary massively. I only do short drives to work (5-10mins max) and then the odd spirited drive at evenings/weekends, and I get between 30-32mpg. Nearly always hit about 300miles from a tank of fuel.

Things to look out for when buying it. check all the usual used car stuff (History, tax, test, HPi etc). ST specific problems. Power Steering is the main one. The ST has a habit of boiling its fuel. Make sure the fuel ain't black (should be cherry red) and that the pump ain't whinning. If it is, you might need a replacement soonish.

As for ST and its troubles on the street. You do see quite a few threads on various forums about things being stolen. Center caps are a big one! But its not unknown for spoilers, skirts and even bumpers to go missing! (as seen with a thread on here!) However, it's impossible to say if this is going to happen to yours or not tbh

38k is pretty low, if its been driven hard the brake discs and pads may need replacing, but mine were fine at this mileage, even after a few track days. Other than that everything should be fine at that age.

MPG again is totally down to how its driven. On a long run 40mpg (even with Mountune 185) is possible. Keeping the revs under 3000rpm will keep the mpg high, but a 70mph cruise is 3500rpm. Around town it, like all cars will suffer quiet badly, and the 185 drinks fuel at idle since it idles higher and rougher than a standard car without uprated cams. Driving around London/Romford area i get between 26-30mpg, due to the stop start nature. On my "fast drives" in the country i can infact get more mpg because i wont be stopping much. With the cams, you need to rag it a bit more to feel the extra horses, so the mpg will be lower. Dont be put off looking at that car, but i think i would recommend a Mountune 165 more than a 185. See how you feel with a test drive.

As said by Yarde, the Power steering is a issue, often boiling over which not only makes a mess of the engine bay, but will make the fluid less effective each time it boils, and this can ruin the pump if the fluid isn't changed or topped up. The idle of that car will sound rough but its perfectly normal for the 185 and 200 kits from Mountune. or any uprated cam car really.

Pre facelift cars have mapping issues sometimes and should have seen recall work done on that, as well as the clutch pedal. Newer cars are fine however (2007+).

As Yarde said, Center caps are a BIG issue, and unless you are parked down a street that sees little or no through traffic i wouldn't leave them on other wise they *WILL* be stolen. Spoilers, Skirts, bumpers and foglights do get nicked from time to time, and i've had it myself. Horrible sight, as you may have seen on this thread back in 2010. Dont let that put you off too much, all cars suffer it. I think im the only one on OCUK to have it happen, and we have got a few owners on here.

I use my car 99% around town and without driving like a granny (but also not flooring it constantly) I get around 24 MPG.

Quick question guys. I need to top my car up with about 500ml of oil. I know Ford now sell only fully synth 5w30 oil but I dont know what went in my car last time round (Semi or full synth)as I didnt own it then.

Which am I best topping it up with? Which would be the safest option? It is due an oil change soon (Next month), is it just best to wait untill then?

Just get some magnatec Ford spec "5w30 A1" from Halfords or Tesco, Halfords is cheaper for 4 litres, but im not sure whos best for the 2litre ones. Doesn't matter if you mix semi or fully synth.

Id keep it topped up, mine gets noisy when its below halfway on the dipstick.

Thanks mate,

Ive got a 5L Ford Formula F bottle ready for a change so will just got a 2L and use that for top ups in the future. I seemed to remember you could mix fully and semi but wasnt sure.

Thanks again!

id recommend to use the same oil normally, but its not going to ruin anything. Better to have it up to max mark on a mix of oil, rather than below min on the same oil.

Had mine for almost 2 months now and this is how it looks. It was completely standard when I got it.

I've just added Gel Overlays today

If the picture is larger than 1280 pixels wide then please resize, put in spoiler tags or link only. Thank you.

I've just got to spray the plastics and that's me about done with exterior looks. Next up is lowering, strut brace, manifold and cat back.

Mine has developed - probably in Morrisons car park - a nice crack about a foot long on the rear bumber on the flat bit right below the bottom of the boot :(

I keep looking at these motors and I still want one...

Would I regret swapping though?! Who knows, I aren't even that bothered about the speed anymore but it'd be so much cheaper (and thus more fun) modding an ST, Honda prices are crazy...

Anyone wanna swap? :P
