Who here owns a Renaultsport?

SO the old man, being an old school mechanic reckons a Clio will cause me nothing but problems and cost me a fortune in repairs.

I have said to him, I have checked all common problems and there really isn't much that goes wrong with them. But he is having none of it. What are the main common problems, and do much go wrong with them?

HAHA pot kettle black springs to mind with your old EK9. You fagged up the engine bay on that! :D

A once over with Gunk is a bit different to looking at replacing parts because they're dirty.

Besides, that was the first and only time it was done since it arrived from Japan, Citroen boy:p

a lot of people go with matte black on the inlet manifold.

Not sure about the cover though. You could maybe paint it the same colour as the car and get another 2.0l sticker.

I remember you sending me links to new rocker covers or considering repainting your own one.

Besides I've got a Toyota and getting a Honda asap, Renault boy.

Yeah the rocker cover paint doesn't last long on Hondas. You'll see soon:p

EP3 btw?

Probably get a EP3 yeah if I can find a nice low mileage pre-facelift for a good price. Missed out on a 25k mile one other day, sold instantly.

I was actually considering the other way around.

Matte silver on the inlet, and gloss black on the cover - sanded flat and polished to perfection :)

I need a 172 cup, mileage not important, must have had a cambelt/dephaser and have good history. Pref no mods. Will be using it on trackdays through summer. Up to £2500 avail.

Thought I might post in here on off chance :)

That sounds good. I think either way will work well.

Don't forget to try and get hold of another sticker for the cover, think that'll look nice on a black cover!

I'm driving an EP3 and I drove a friends DC5 but it felt so much slower, I guess because the car is bigger. Both standard.

You can get a great 172 with a £2500 budget, give me 10 mins and I'll find something that might be suitable! I'll just edit this post.

Not sure about cambelts ^^

Here's one with cambelt changed, not too high mileage and under you budget. 182 wheels too.

Looks good, bit over your budget though. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2482337.htm

Standard wheels on a 172 are VILE though.

Can you buy them? Or is it a case of getting someone to make it up or just finding something similar?

Ta da!

Looks a bit gash as the engine bay is filthy. If the inlets were shiny then it'd look much better.
