Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Treated the clio to a machine polish today, and it repaid the favour by sticking the service light on.

Silver is poo, spend 8 hours cleaning and it barely looks any different, yeah its stupidly shiney, but not deep reflections like black or dark blue etc. :(

Just in a fortunate position where the value of the Celica is greater that the value of the loan I have against it so just going to sell it so I can pay it off and start putting more money aside each month for me to move out.

The best way to think of the Celica too is as a tame CTR/Intergra. Mine definitely has more show than go... :D

Posted in ther wrong thread:

Thing is, i see the Clio as being a sideways, or even backwards step compared to the Celica.. Even the Type R isnt much better all things considered...

Thats why, imo to get to the next plateue of performance you need a turbo and above 200bhp, like the megane or something mazda 3 mps.

I think you are highly underestimating the performance of clios. Celica is 0-62 in 9 seconds i believe? Thats almost 3 seconds slower than a clio, thats the same difference between my clio and a ferrari enzo :p

And thats before i even start banging on about handling :p

What 9 seconds? its about 6.5/

I think it is YOU who is highly underestimating the Celica?

Ill make it easy for you:

Quick, jump inside. That's better. The GT's leather and Alcantara seats are excellent and the controls well placed (the pedals, for example, are so well matched for heeling and toeing that you're soon doing it almost subconsciously) and everywhere there's a slick precision to the way the Celica does its stuff. Actually, I'd forgotten just what a brilliant chassis this is, and in the GT it feels sharper than ever. There's a wonderfully alert, living feel to it, and as you slice into corners you can feel the suspension working, bobbling around, not in an unsettling way but in a busy, involving fashion. Any electronic interventions are discreet, messages stream back from all four corners, and you feel right there, nice and low, at the centre of it all.

The engine, as ever, is a mixed blessing. The way it whips from 6500 to the 8000rpm red line is a hoot, but below six-five there's really very little there, and unless you take it literally into the red, each upchange drops you back out of 'the zone'. Like the looks, it's definitely not for everyone, and together they deny the Celica the wider audience that its chassis deserves. Which is a shame, because in a few months' time the Celica will have ceased to be, perhaps destined to be a 'nearly' car. So if you don't mind the way it looks, grab one while you still can - just remember to tick the 'thick skin' option.

Hm..

I think the 190 is 7.2 0-60 :) The 9 seconds figure is probably the 140.

I can see where you are coming from but it's not really about taking it to the next level per-se. If I was after that I would look at an S2k or maybe an older Elise

I can see where you are coming from in some regards. It would be a bit of step backwards in regards to that Clio's are generally not seen as adult cars per-se (I hope people understand where I'm coming from with that) compared to the Celica but performance-wise I think a Clio is a worth replacement to it but it would be more of a sideways step but I never said I was after taking it to the next level this would just be a different kind of fun.

If I was to take it to the next level I would look at S2K's or VX220's maybe even a 350z

EDIT:// I've already got an aftermarket Sports-cat (PPE) and exhaust system (Invidia N1) on it and the cost of the PPE header is too great imo.

Fair enough i just wanted to make sure you was aware:)

Both have their respective edges, i grant the Clio is smaller, lighter andguably more throwable into the corners, whereas the celica is probably longer, lower, weighs more.

Performance is probably a toss up, but reliability, looks driving position all go to the Celica...

Didn't realise there were two engines for the GT. I'm not going to pretend i know anything about the newest gen celica, because i don't. I lost interest in toyota in 1998 :p

Ah no there is only one engine for the GT (the 190) but that figure looks like it for the (140vti)

I see exactly where you are coming from here but the Clio gives me the opportunity to have something equal (greater in some aspects) while also removing my current loan I have.

When the time is right in the future I can come back to more 'adult' cars :)

:D

It's one of those things were the minority in to their cars will appreciate and to the vast majority it's just a boy racer'd car. I think I get that all the time with mine due to the big wing on the back of it despite it being a factory part.

No offence taken :D

And i have to agree, its the only downside to the car. When people ask what car i drive i often feel the need to express its not just a 1.2 clio with a loud exhaust, but unfortunately im sure that's how most people perceive it.

I had two 'ladies' come up to me the other week and I quote - "why are you polishing a clio" then "O but your mates Type R is nice there well quick!"

Felt like slapping the stupid bint over the face and telling her whats what!

No, £2200 is, somebody on here got one for that.

Yeah and if I bought a written off Elise for £3k, would that mean that was the bottom of the market for elises?

I can't understand how you fail to see that I bought a broken car that was priced accordingly.
