Who here owns a Renaultsport?

As long as it's not above the db limit for road use there shouldn't be anything illegal about it except for scaring the **** out of people.

.

Is a popping exhaust actually illegal, or do they just class it as anti-social behaviour?

Not illegal but it inevitably gets considered anti-social by the police, they think you're booting it to make it do it deliberately...my car (Fiesta ST Mountune 185) pops and bangs without provocation even at low speeds so I do sympathise with your plight :D

Good luck with that :)

I don't need any luck :p

Turinis = £600
Splitter = £20
Eibach + fitting = £240
Re-map and exhaust = £632
Insurance = £1400
Tyres = £288
Road Tax = £130

£3310.

The car itself cost £3,300

£6610

:eek:

I would love to put a custom steering wheel on it but it's just too dangerous without an air-bag...

My exhaust has rattled ever since I bought the car 18 months ago. Finally stopped it with some heat wrap and metal cable ties! Got 12 cable ties holding my exhaust on now :)

My front discs need doing on the 197 as I'm getting vibration under braking, having trouble deciding what disc/pads to fit, the fronts vary from £45 to £350.

Would like somthing half decent or genuine oem but not full on race stuff. any recommendations?

With me hopefully getting a decent job soon which will mean I'll have to drive to I'm going to need a car, and I've always loved the look of these, insurance won't be too expensive given my age and stuff, what should I be looking at from around £3lk to £4k? Anything specific I need to look out for?

£3000 should get you a very good example of a phase 2 172 while £4000 will be a middle of the road 182 (I could be wrong, the prices seem to have shot down a lot recently on 182's as far as I can see). The main thing to look out for on these cars is cam/aux belt history. Ideally done by a specialist rather than a generic garage!

Other things to look for are the exhaust as the standard ones are known to rust quickly and the shocks are known to leak after a couple of years causing instability (tram lining on rough surfaces and a light rear end during cornering)

Otherwise it's pretty much a case of checking the car has good history/receipts so you know it's well looked after. I'm sure I've missed a few things but I'm sure someone will add a few bits :p

£3k to £4k is definitely 182 money. 172's are down to £2k or less now. The high insurance premiums and the 'percieved' bad fuel economy mean prices have tumbled.

Oh yea, make sure you have money for insurance.

Thanks for the info guys. :) Didn't realise prices had dropped that much. There are quite a few on AutoTrader and PH suppose I'll have to get browsing properly!

You should be well within 182 FF budget here as the others have said. Go for it, they're great little cars!

My next car will be looking something like this, my plan is to have it by the end of the year :)
