Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Just a quick question for all you 172/182 owners regarding front shocks. How easy is it to push each corner of the front suspension down on the car? I can barely push the car down so I'm thinking maybe I have knackered front shocks as my car is terrible on bumps :( or are they just really stiff even when new?

Preferably people who are using standard Renault shocks can give me some feedback please as I know some of you have coilovers etc :p;)

Duff shocks would offer less resistance than good ones, so would mean pushing down would be easier, and the ride would be bouncier and you would be all over the place. My front suspension doesn't move far when I push down it it. Its fairly stiff, and being the normal 172, its the softest of the lot.

My Black Gold 182, 58,500 miles, 05 plate - will be up for sale shortly if anybody is in the market or looking for one. Braided lines, Brembo HC front discs, DS2500's front pads. New rear discs & pads (OEM) recently too. Remap & Miltek Cat-back SS exhaust. FSH serviced in March @ JMS. MOT until June 2012, Tax till November.

If anybody is interested e-mail in trust. It will be on PH shortly.

Hmmmm, need a job first! :(

would a faulty (leaking) rear shock cause road noise akin to faulty wheel bearing?

Nope, or at least mine didn't. Easiest way to check if you have a leaky shock is to stick your head under it and see if it looks wet. If its leaking, the oil will run down the outside of it.

Right, just got back from test driving a 55 plate 182 with 55k on the clock, and I've got to say, I can see why people say the ST is only a warm hatch! Only got to do about 15 minutes but it was mainly on 50/60MPH roads so got to get a bit of a feel for the power, although didn't want to push it too hard. Massively impressed with engine, loads of power but didn't seem like it wanted to kill me straight off the bat, and the steering was equally impressive, very responsive and quick! Caught me off guard at first as it's so much more responsive than my 106. I can only imagine how much fun they must be on a nice empty road without the car dealer and your grandad in the car with you ;).

Not so fond of the gearbox, definitely not as nice as the ST, but that's about the only thing (performance wise) that the 182 loses out on.

Completely loved the drive, definitely much more fun as a driver's car than the ST, but I just can't shake the feeling that the ST is likely to be the safer bet for doing >13k miles next year.

I did about 15k in my 172 over 10 months, and it cost me nothing more than a routine service and a couple of ball joints for its MOT. However, in contrast, in the last 4 months my 172 has done 1500 miles and has cost me about £1500 in breakages. It will be as reliable as any French hatchback.

Yeah after reading around they seem they can be a bit hit and miss. Obviously not as bad as a lot of people (mainly my parents at the moment!) seem to think though.

I was kind of hoping to dislike the Clio so that I could make my mind up on the ST, but it really impressed me! If only Ford had stuck the Clio's engine in the ST, that would be amazing.

yeh, ive got a leaking rear shock which is getting sorted on Saturday but also (coincidence?) getting a drone noise from the rear only at 35mph-40mph. Im hoping its the shock that is doing it!

if its the bearing ive read its cheaper in the long run to get the rear discs changed as they come with the bearing?

thanks!

2 genuine rear Renault disks will cost £99, and come with the bearings in them. You also don't need to fit aftermaket rear pads (as the rear brakes to sod all), so pads are only £20.

cool, might take this option if it turns out the bearings have gone. Although the car (172) had new rear discs and pads (genuine renault) back in April 2010! car has only done 7k since then.

will be getting level 1 service done too, so all in all going to cost be a packet lol
